Just a quick bump. I think I found the secret..... Go to Moochies, but dont eat there. If your sandwich has 10 minutes or so to sit, it is much much better. And since Moochies wraps them in foil, it is still warm wherever you decide to eat it. I am thinking of going back and getting another one since it was SO tasty on this cold rainy day in Salt Lake. Hooray for cheesesteak! Oh and before he even pipes in, dont listen to Lemon Boy, he obviously knows NOTHING of cheesesteaks

I know that they suck balls in philly and that's enough to know.

You should have tried some cheesesteak instead of hanging out in gay bars having your balls sucked

it would've been more satisfying than one of the "things" they call cheesesteaks.

but I didn't bother with any of that lowbrow shit anyway only the finest for this kid.

See there is your whole problem. Cheesesteaks are lowbrow, greasy, messy, and definitely bad for you. But that is also the whole point. Obviously cheesesteaks are just lost on somebody of your social stature

I can get lowbrow at home. Going out for lowbrow on somebody else's dime is dumb.

What the hell is wrong with you? What is it about greasy, cheese and onion covered meat on good bread that you didnt like? Dont tell me you like the big dry slabs of steak with grilled peppers and onion with a slice of cheese over the top on rock hard bread, like they tend to serve here in Utah...... Hell, you can get those at Denny's pretty much anywhere

That's just it, they're not like that there. The bread isn't that great, cheeze wiz is for posuers and all too often they're bland, dry and boring. The Pub in winter park or the cart on 16th are vastly superior. I feel bad that UT sucks but at least here, it's easy to beat a "philly" from Philly.

If Pats or Ginos was "bland, DRY, and boring" you need to get your head checked. When I was there it was next to impossible to keep the greasy goodness off of your elbows

Prof... I am sorry that I haven't done my part. You were willing to go out of your way to try The Philladelphian in Sandy and give your honest oppinion. I still haven't made it to Moochies. However, I still have been eating at the philly. No matter what is said... I love that joint. They absolutly pile it on there. And the fact that the place is totally packed at lunch is assurance that people like the food there.

I will make an honest attempt to get to Moochies in the near future. And I will be sure to wrap it and wait at least 10 minutes before enjoying.

No worries. And as for the Philadelphian, I didnt like their cheesesteak, but it doesnt mean I dont like it there. They have a sandwich with pastrami, cheese, mushrooms and a ton of other stuff that I used to eat ALL the time when I worked near there and can still taste it when I think about it. So again, not bad mouthing the Philadelphian, just that their cheesesteak didnt cut it

    Where to get good Phillys

For the best Phillys in Utah, go to Moochie's!! The owner is from Philly and her cousin is Tony Luke, who recently won a cheesesteak challenge against Bobby Flay on the Food Network. You just gotta try it.

I guess you didn't actually READ the thread, but Moochies has been discussed since the begining and is the clear winner so far.

    How 'bout a Maggot discount???

Originally from the outskirts of Philadelphia (first 21 years of my life), been all over the place the last ten years, recently moved to the SLC area for work. Read through all your posts about cheesesteaks, the logical explanation is that a true Philly cheesesteak can not be 100% duplicated outside the tri-state area. A good one can be found in the Philadelphia area, throughout southern New Jersey, and even in Delaware. The bread is the key, I believe because of the water. I went to school just an hour away in New Brunswick, northern NJ (Rutgers University) and the bread was awful for cheesesteaks and such. Had plenty of poor excuses for a cheesesteak around the country, everything from roast beef-type meat on the worst kind of roll to a thick T-bone thrown on toast. Some places didn't chop up the meat at all, others didn't let the cheese melt or cook the onions...made me want to jump behind the counter and cook it myself because no one wanted to do it correctly. I spent three years working in a pizza joint eight miles from the Walt Whitman Bridge; besides friends and family, a good authentic cheesesteak is what I miss most from that area!

And by the way, Pats and Genos are for the tourists and stupid politicians like John Kerry who couldn't even figure out what kind of cheese to ask for. Last time I was home, I had a good one at Chickie and Pete's (Frankfurt Avenue?) Prices were a bit high though. On the way back out through the Philadelphia Arport, I noticed there is now a Chickie and Pete's in the main terminal once you get done putting your shoes back on.

Any new updates as to where I can find some resemblance of a cheesesteak in SLC?

I didnt read the whole post cause its too damned long, but I too come from the Jersey area and know exactly what you mean about a good cheesesteak. Its DEFINITELY the BREAD!!!!!! and certainly the WATER!!! The meat, if you know what to buy, is available most anywhere.

now the BEST i've had locally (discounting the bread which isnt half bad) is Moochies. http://www.moochiesmeatballs.com/

Cheesesteaks are good....meatballs are great...she grew up in Philly. I think her grandma lived directly across the steet from Geno's or Pats in Philly before it was even established.

Again best ive had since I left the east coast.

    Good luck in your quest...

Professor, you asked me to try Moochies over a year ago. All I can say is "procrastinators of the world unite ...tomorrow". I finally made it there today. I also kept it wrapped up for more than 10 minutes before eating. The Cheese Steak was absolutely delicious. Keep in mind I am NOT an expert on true Philly cheese steaks. Moochies, however, did remind me exactly of my experience in Philidelphia. The cheese steak was awesome. I will deffinately return for lunch again. Anyone else looking for a good Philly cheese steak should check the place out. For anyone who missed it - Moochie's 800 S. 232 E.

Now, for anyone looking for an absolutely delicious sandwhich... not as authentic as Moochie's, I still love the Philadelphian in Sandy. Very different than Moochie's. Great food at a very descent price.

I live in Sandy, the Philadelphian's cheesesteaks taste like roast beef. The meat is not quite right, although they cook it in the correct manner.

Tried Moochie's this past weekend, it was pretty good, but they don't offer cheese whiz as an option on their steaks. Just Provolone (WTF?) and American. Even have TastyCakes there.

Yeah, the lack of whiz hurts, but it is still the best in Salt Lake. Good to hear you had an enjoyable cheesesteak, Pow4brkfst. I hate to say, but I told you so.
