    Trigger Pulled (nsr)

Dropped my letter of resignation on my boss's desk tonight. It will greet him in the morning. It's a powerful feeling.

    Drinking beer now.

You should have just text-messaged him. That is what all of the cool kids do, and would show that you are on the cutting edge.

Is your relationship with your boss that bad?
I resolve PC issues remotely. Need to get rid of all that pr0n you downloaded on your work laptop? Or did you just get a ton of viruses from searching for "geriatic midget sex"? Either way I can fix them. PM Me for maggot prices.

Unfortunately, yes. I had a series of meetings last month with my boss(es) to try to deal with some things that are causing all of their employees (it's a small design/build outfit) to want to work elsewhere. Heh, I was not well received. The hard part is that we used to be close, but the company is nearing a breaking point so his & her stress levels are very high. Since the outfit is small, everyone's role is critical. Based on recent exchanges other people have had with them I thought it best to go this route. Originally I was going to sit down with them at the office.

I did think about doing a WWMD on this, but I just had to get it done.

    what would you have done?

Sounds like you put some serious effort in to make things work. When the higher-ups don't care, maybe the company's circling the drain already or maybe they don't want you. Regardless, this was a gut decision and I say you chose wisely. How long had you been there anyway? Perhaps it was time to move on?

I gave my notice last Friday. It felt sooooo good. My boss and I get along and we are leaving everything as good as could be. I gave three weeks notice and will be working to try and find my replacement.

I also just bought a new car yesterday. Life is good!

I am happy. Like tarkman said it feels good

I was there for almost 4 years. The company is almost 4 years old. I am the first person they hired. I know they don't want me to go. We have built some amazing stuff. Stuff I couldn't have ever imagined. But in the end, day to day life has GOT to be enjoyable and it just hasn't been for awhile. Yes it is time to move on before the drain-circling picks up speed and nobody can get out.

Do you work in the design side or the build side? My wife has a company that does the designs/sales/CS for several builders here in the DC area. She's an Interior Designer who is also among other acronyms a CR (certified remodeler) which is what you need around here to draw blueprints w/o needing an Architect's stamp.

I ususally write up my letter of resignation, then give it to them in person. That way you are sure to say what you want, but get the pleasure of seeing thier faces hit the floor.

If i ever have to leave tgr I think I will do it in a post.

The company I'm currently with is in one of these circling drain situations. Someone in the office told me in July that since January they are averaging losing an employee to quiting/firing about every 8 days. For a company of 65 employees max, that is a huge problem. Either way, mine goes in today, and I already have a new one lined up. WAHOO.

It is so bad, my company almost does have a template. I had a girl in marketing send me this.

Please accept this letter as formal resignation from my position here at __________ effective Friday, Oct. 20th. A career opportunity has presented itself to me, and I feel a transition at this time will better enable me to reach both personal and professional goals.

I would like to sincerely thank you for the opportunity to expand my construction knowledge and sharpen my skills within this industry. I have had the pleasure of working with several very talented people, many of whom I now consider mentors.

If I can be of any assistance recruiting or training my replacement during these next two weeks, please let me know.

The problem with owning my own business is that I can't write myself such a letter, I can't qiut myself, although my boss can be an asshole at times.

When a company starts the death spiral, management should take everyone aside that they want to keep and make whatever deal is needed to keep them around. If they don't do that, you know where you stand. It is best to get out early if you can, things seldom get better!

In several of the companies I've worked for management wasn't clued in enough to figure out things were starting to spiral and the workers wanted to jump ship.

Finally back home for the day.

Build side. I am a working project manager/carpenter. Since the business is small and specialized, three guys manage sites/subcontractors and do the carpentry at the same time. All the cabinetry is built in "our" shop as well as furniture pieces, design elements, millwork etc.

That is the deal here. Talked to my boss about it today. He wanted to know what the "offer" was so he could have a shot at it. I said no.

I thought about putting mine in today. That's a good template. It might be useful to me in the next couple days. First, I must do some stradegizing (is that a word?). If I play my cards right, I won't have to resign and I'll be getting paid to drink cocktails on the beach in Costa. But the game's getting more complicated than I'd like right now.
