    Trout fishing in SLC

I am visiting SLC in a couple weeks and was wondering if trout season is still open for the year and if so how long? Also, any recommendations on specific spots close to SLC?

The season is open all year in Utah. Go to Western Rivers Flyfishers and ask what is going on. They have been doing funny things with a few of our rivers lately

Are they an evil company that i should avoid patronizing? I am also looking for a new 4wt reel but if they are kind of shady i don't want to support them.

You can fish the weber river or provo about 35 min from slc. Let me know when you are out here and you can come with me and a few guide buddies.

I think the 'They' that Professor is referring to is the irrigators and others who change the river flows. not the fly shop.

Fez is right, I was referring to the "powers that be" when I was talking about who is screwing with our rivers. Wester Rivers Flyfisher is just a good local shop and they are really good about giving straight information. It is really the only place in Salt Lake that has the "good ole fishing store" attitude. Right down to asking "want a cup of coffee?" when you walk through the door. They have a decent online report at wrflyfishers.com if you want to check it out. Again, just a good shop. Now if they could just get Winston to hurry up with my new 6 weight, I would be happier

Thanks for the tip, Prof. Just got some gear this summer and have been looking for a good shop.

Dunno if you wanna hike - and I'm no fisherman - but I was surprised to see the size of the trout lurking under the cliffs in White Pine reservoir. I'd always figured that area had nothing longer than 12".
