TR: You Down with O.P.(P) in L.C.C.

Another chapter in the Omen Production chronicles. Omen Prodcutions in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Myself (Cody), George Hjelte and Ben Barnes of Omen Productions hopped in a big ole truck and headed out to Utah. We arrived to phUnk and Mrs. phUnk's house to a hospitable welcome. And no sooner than we arrived at phUnk's home a game plan was formed. Go huck big cliffs, ski deep pow and straightline anything.

Day 1 Introduction Awe We headed up the canyon and rubbernecked out of the car amazed at all the coulee's and towering peaks of the LCC. We parked it up at the top of the canyon and did gazing 360's scanning all the lines surrounding us. Due to graybeard light conditions and old snow we decided to skin up to some mini-golf terrain opposite of chad's gap and above some random houses.
Welcome to Utah you Tahoe fuck After some small drops in the first zone, myself, phUnk and George went up for a second round. The snow wasn't too deep, but just enough for some nice stomping. So I decided to go for about a 30 footer that had to be cleared by about 30 feet. I dropped in to the line, gathered some speed and arced a little turn into the edge of the cliff with some heavy speed. And about a milli-second before picking up my feet for flight, I hear that horrible sound of metal striking rock. Before you know it I'm sailing over the gap-cliff head first, feet above my head and facing sideways to the fall line. The scariest part was the sudden deceleration, thereby skimming the bottom rocks and barely clearing the cliff. Quick lesson in Utah pow to a Tahoe boy. Even though there is 360 inches at Alta this year, rocks in takeoffs abound. Lesson noted. Then phUnk and George followed with some nice blind lines off a little 15 footer and arced some pow turns to the bottom. A good little warm up day to the sick week in Zion

Day 2 Hello Alta Crew We headed up the LCC to some overnight fresh, cold temps and some trippy in and out light filtered through sparkling haze. And as soon as the Omen crew touched snow a maggot gathering insued. Z, Powhow and Altachic were met and skied with. The gracious alta crew showed us through some lines in the glory hole, bad news cliffs, bat cave and many other secret stashes. The Tahoe crew was amazed at the shear weightless pow and cold temps of the LCC. Not like tahoe for sure. As far as a score card here it goes. Z and phUnk took a nice double stager, both stomped clean. George's creative mind guided him through two tight, technical lines. Powho stomped a clean 25er. And I took decent 30er to stomping in powho's bomb hole. All in all it was a good day. Nothing epic but some good Utah experience and a nice welcome by the Utah crew.

Day 3 So this is Utah Weather forecasts called for Super sunday to have the only possible sunlight in the next couple days. So a dawn patrol assault to the LCC backcountry was planned. We summitted Cardiff ridge about ten seconds before the sunrose over the eastern peaks. Light was an epic golden hue reflecting off the dozen lines of Cardiff ridge. I got shut out of the entire staightline I wanted to take but managed to do about 3/4 of it with an air in the middle of the chute and opening up to some sick blower turns. George goes blind off a 30 footer with speed and stomps the fucking crap out of it. One of those stomps where it looked like he never even left the ground. phUnky duNky decided to go over the blind rollover about 15 feet to the skiers left of where we guided him. He ended up arcing two turns over about a 40 foot long band of rocks. The audio from the tape explains the situation, it went something like this.
Me- Oh shit, where is he going
phUnk's Skis- Crack crack crack creeeeak caawk crack crackkkkk
Me- Holy shit I thought you (phUnk) was dead.
    phUnk- wow, that was gnarly.
Anyways, Phunk still managed to make it look clean and stick the line. We sessioned the Cardiff ridge until about 10:30, cause within about 20 minutes the light went from bluebird to graybeard. We be out.

And that night wrapped up with Super sunday at Jayfrizzo's house. Would like to drop a big thanks to JayF and Mrs Frizz for the super good grub, nice Beirut game and comfy couch to watch an exciting super bowl. So far the utard crew was treating us like royalty.

Day 4 Fucking gnarly So as another day continued in the graybeard sessions we went back to alta for a planned session in the cecret lake cliffs. All though the light was flat and conditions were stormy, raddness insued. My lame descriptions aren't going to do any of these lines taken down justice. So I'm just gonna wait for the stills to come out or the video to be dropped. For any alta informed, let's just say most of the possible lines in the cecret lake cliffs went down. Some sick sick stuff went down.

And today we wrapped up the shoot and chased the pow back to Tahoe. Tomorrow is another day in of filming up in Donner.

Mainly I wanted to do this write up to thank phUnk and mrs. phUnk for their unbelievable hospitality, jayfrizzo for the superbowl party and the rest of the LCC crew for showing us the goods in Utah.

Sick, I can't wait for the video. Omen, if you're down to do a PacNW segment, I can show you crystal anytime (weekends are better, weekdays are possible but not probably). You think Alta is amazing? Well, it is, but Crystal is pretty okay too.
