    Working In Canada

    Hey guys,
Im coming up to the Norther hemisphere to see if you guys are any good at this whole skiing thing. I don't know if you heard, but here in Australia, im kind of a big deal.
I got a job working at a rental place in Lake louise for the season. Anyone worked in rentals before? Whatsit like? easy? warm? long lunch breaks to go 4 a ski?
Anyone here living Banff or LL? any advice? Things to see, do?

    Cheers

Told to me by a miffed ex-girlfriend when she learned I was going to spend the week in Whistler rather than Vancouver with her: "go ahead and get chlamydia off of some loose Aussie liftie". I don't have any such informed opinion on Aussie ski-techs in Banff/LL so I will refrain from drawing parrallels...

I have a funny story about a loose Kiwi liftie in Whistler.

Me and an English buddy were staggaring home at 3am after Garfunkles threw us out. Having not got lucky in the bar, he preceded to approach every group of girls he saw on the way home. This strategy was obviously destined to fail and after a few strike-outs we were almost back at our condo. He then approached a couple of girls whom I was too far away from to hear what he said to them because I was keeping enough distance so as to not be too associated with him for a number of reasons. I was, however, waiting around for him to get rejected so we could walk home together. Anyway, one of the pair walked away in disgust but the other seemed to be chatting amicably with my friend. Realising I would not have companionship for the last 100m or so of my journey home, I approached the new couple to say "good-bye". The Aussie sounding girl (I found out later she was from NZ) said in a thick Aussie/NZ accent, "Where you goin' porn star?". Looks like she was up for what Australians commonly refer to as a "spit-roast" (use your imagination if you don't know what it is). I actually declined (not without thinking it over first, I might add). This turned out to be a bad turn for the both of them.

While I turned and walked the last 100m home, they went the other way to where I assumed was her place. That is the last I thought about it until the next evening when I came in off the mountain to find my friend frantically scrubbing the back of his ski-jacket. It was then I recalled the previous night and I asked him what happened. It seems the two of them were to drunk to navigate that last 100m and they ended up in an unfamiliar parking lot with now condo in sight in which to shag. Being the English gentleman that my friend is, he offered his coat as a blanket. Still, the gravel and salt chewed up the back of the jacket (not to mention my friends hands and knees) and I never did ask about the blood on the inside of the jacket. All in all a class act.

Again, the girl was a Kiwi liftie, not an Australian ski-tech, so I, again, draw no parrallels. In my group of friends, however, it is still common to use the phrase "where you goin' porn star" (in a thick aussie/NZ accent, of course) when drinking...

Even more amazing an aussie who can't get over himself at Lake Louise. He'll probably be first on the list to get a long lunch everyday and go frolic with the other aussie in the trauma park.

Observations from the last 10 years at LL = The daylodge staff don't do sweet f-all. If they see you coming they run. Same with the bar staff.

Sorry for the rant. Hill is great, you'll have a blast. Just some bad experiences in the lodge. (Right Barenaked?).
