    Talking

I plan on trying some other Ohio ski hills too.

    Expect full reports.

I've never skied east of Winter Park, so I'm interested to see the ohio/midwest perspective on skiing.

Can't wait to rip the mogul "field."

I don't know if I can handle the "expert handle tow" for the pipe though.

edit: page top suckas, wtf ? two pages on alpine valley? must still be summer

    ...lake effect blower.

Sweet another western soul to share my misery with! I haven't skied east of CO either, and don't plan for that to change anytime soon, even though the wife is living in Columbus and I'll be there a lot this winter. I drove by some little ski hill in Bellville(?) and just cracked up. And almost cried at the same time.

Mad river looks impressive by ohio standards.

Sure, I'd go to a midwest mini

And I used to think Snoqualmie Summit, Ski Acres and Hyak were small! I guess any skiing at all is better than no skiing.
In drove this drunken madman and stopped on a dime! Unfortunately the dime was in Mr. Rococo's pocket!

Nope it was in fact Bellville. Actually just looked it up and the area is at Butler. Clear Fork be the name.

I'll bring my XC skis for the mini.

edit: ooohh sounds like I may not have a chance to experience the "Ride 'n Slide", "Terrain Park", or "Mogul Field" after all:
OUR SKI AREA IS FOR SALE! (See all information below!)
Interested parties contact Mr. Steve Tucker at the Robert Weiler Co.
    Phone: (614) 221-4286 or Email to stucker@rweiler.com
Our real estate agent is still negotiating with interested parties.
Unless the area is sold we will be closed for the upcoming 2006-2007 winter season! Updates will be posted as they become available!

The Lake Erie shoreline is certainly influenced by lake effect. Here's a snowfall map for Ohio I found:

180 inches per year sounds a little inflated, though!

I imagine a west-facing slope directly east of the lake could swing it that much.

Count me in for a midwest mini as well.
I think that the human mind is unique among all other forms of life in that it can spontaneously create unique thoughts and provide unique behaviors. Instead of rewarding that uniqueness we, for some reason probably because of cultural and social necessity, we chastise unique behavior and reward conformity.

We go through this every year, as soon as we pick a date and a location, alas everyone has plans at the last minute and can't make it. The closest to a mini was me skiing with my son, nohills and "thing 1 (ian)" for an afternoon at Swiss Valley.

I'm in any weekend there is snow on the ground. I have passes to Caberfae and Swiss Valley (I'll be at SV almost every weekend), and am willing to travel as long as it does not interfere with one of my sons Race League events or practices.

I'm not sure where everyone lives and how the drive would be, but would anyone be up for a midwest/EC mini at Snowshoe?

Egon, are you out here yet?

We'll get Particle up here one weekend and alternate between Alpine Valley and Ray's and several beers.
    It's idomatic, beatch.

This it it WILL HAPPEN, because I said so. And Snowshoe isn't an option because if I'm going to drive 8 hours to ski I would just as soon fly 2-3 hours.

Snowshoe is a noshoe for me. Been there a few times, 9 hours to ski there isn't worth it for their typical conditions. Now promise me that we would be there during one of those strange mid atlantic dumps and i could be persuaded.

If we were to doa combo midwest/ec mini, I'd say Holiday Valley or Seven Springs would be more doable, but still far for the Michi, wisc, Illinois mags.

And THIS is why there will never be a midwest mini.

We all ski our local crappy areas out of necessity, not desire. No one here is going to drive anywhere in the midwest to ski equally crappy areas. If anyone here is going to spend cash and time to ski, we'll all choose to go west, or at least to Vermont.

Sorry, but that's the deal (and you even said it in your post).

But we can still have fun gaping it up together and downing beers. Afterall, what's a mini without beer?

Ray's/ice skiing/beer, with an emphasis on Ray's and beer sounds good to me. Doubt if I'll be able to make a full weekend of it but if I can swing a day trip I'm in.

Just got out here a couple weeks ago. I've been driving around checking out the lake, cuyahoga NP, downtown. What's Rays?

I'd go to a mini in OH, PA, or NY any farther than that I'd just as well go back to Utah.

That's a great map AD. snowiest spot in ohio.

I plan on trying Granite Peak, which is the old Rib Mountain, in central WI this year if there is any snow.

Good point. Let's keep the only ice as the stuff keeping the beer cold.

EDIT: NEVER MIND BACONZOO, I reread your post and followed the links, I saw the additional pics.

Baconzoo, could you get me some other pics of that astro turf ramp set-up. We are looking to do some rail-jam type things at Swiss this year.

    Thanks.

Beer, some snow and good friends, I'll drive a few extra hours, but not more than 6. I'm located in northwest Indiana.

I'm in for a mini in Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Western New York or Western PA.
