The $185 Freeride guy - big thumbs up

This thread started because the bindings I had ordered hadn't shown up. They are here now and I am a happy skier

I can recommend the guy who sells them. He was helpful and honest and (apart from what seems to have been a 2am drunk/stoned/very confused message and failing to give me the tracking number) very competent.

[rant]The bindings were delayed because the fucking UK postal service delivery guy couldn't be bothered to write a note saying he had tried to deliver them so they sat in a warehouse for 2 weeks. Dicks. I am especially pissed over that because I paid extra for express shipping because I wanted to get them mounted on something in La Grave and didn't have them. Worse, the UK mail service charged me $35 for rapid handling then fucked up the delivery. Tossers. [/rant]

Anyway I am happy now. I have my bindings and didn't even have to call anyone a thief to get them

    Original text:

Well, it's like this. I approached the guy who has been selling Freerides for $185 early in January and arranged to buy some from him for that price plus $44.75 for Global Express Mail to ship them to the UK which I paid by PayPal. I still haven't got the bindings.

The guy has been helpful and has answered my emails but seems really confused/lame. He said originally that he would ship them immediately, then that he had been too busy, then ill. Then he said he HAD shipped them but gave no tracking number. When they didn't arrive I asked for the tracking number but he said they had been returned to him because they couldn't be shipped to a PO Box in Canada. Well, I live at a residential address in the UK - not at a PO Box in Canada. Hence I think he's a little confused - maybe I am just being naive here though...

My question is this: do I wait and see if he gets his act together or do I make a complaint to Paypal to try to get my money back? The deadline when I need to do that (30 days after the payment) is approaching in a few days so I need to work out what to do now. I was planning to give him 24hrs notice to provide proof he has sent them with the consequence (threat?) that I would start the ball rolling to get my money back if he doesn't.

I know that this guy has sold to lot of people around here. He also has a good ebay record (for what it's worth when not buying on ebay). That is why I was inclined to trust him. However, I am in no financial state to take a hit of nearly $230 if the bindings never arrive. WWMD?

Call him and talk to him directly. It's amazing how a few words will sort out any miscommunications via email. Plus, you might get a better feel for whether he is genuinely cornfused or simply in the rip-off business.

If you don't get a tracking number prior to your 30 day window, get your money back. You can always try again.

I really just wanted to get my avatar in line with the rest.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try calling him. It sounds like good advice - and I hadn't thought of doing that...

I might save the map treatment until I have really given up hope. Maybe that's what Powder were doing all this season - sending my copies to somewhere in the wrong country. There must be an Edinburgh in the US and in Canada...

Maybe I'm just getting a bit twitchy about this but, to me, it's starting to smell bad...

I'm experiencing Deja vu. From my experience, get your money back and buy elsewhere if you can. If not, it'll be another month until you do!

I was just hitting the Diamir people up at ispo to try to get a deal on freerides for maggots. Black Diamond has the entire US sewn up with an exclusive.

Blurred, if dl said he sent them, he sent them.

So what's the general consensus on the freeride guy? Is he reliable? I'm about to send for a couple pair.

Well he just came through with an apologetic email here and the tracking number. Apparently the binders have been in the UK for a week - why they haven't been delivered here I do not know.

Just to clarify: this was not Dude le...

I have recieved several emails and private messages asking if I still had a hookup for freerides, I posted sometime in november or dec that I had a good hookup.

I am not the $185 freeride guy, just so everyone who has emailed me knows. BTW I can't get the hookup anymore.
