Friends of Berthoud Pass - quick update AND REQUEST FOR HELP

Well here we are, another season underway early, much to our collective surprise and glee.

FOBP is at it again, revisiting our past successes and moving into some new territory. A few things we're working on right now:

    Avalanche Education:
Free avalanche seminars with Halsted “Hacksaw” Morris, will be held in late-October and mid-November in Boulder and Denver, and early December in Fraser/Winter Park. Members are invited to attend on-snow sessions in mid-January.

    New Website:
An all new www.berthoudpass.org will be a dramatic change over the old site, with new features and improved functionality. We invite your ideas and suggestions as we develop the new site.

    Winter Wildlands Alliance Conference:
FOBP will be attending the Winter Wildlands Alliance Grassroots Advocacy Skills Conference in late-Oct. to share our experiences and learn how to grow and to become a more effective organization.

    Telemark Film Premiere:
Thursday, Nov. 2 at the historic Oriental Theater in Denver, we’ll present Powderwhore Productions newest release, PW06. Join us for music, drink specials and gear giveaways. Two showings: 7:30pm and 10:00pm. $10 tickets: available at area retailers or the box office.

    FOBP Fall Gear Swap:
Sunday, Nov. 12, from 8:00am-2:00pm at the Oriental Theater (44th and Tennyson, Denver) we’re hosting a gear swap. Bring your new or used gear, you price it, you sell it, you keep the proceeds. A $2 admission gets you food and drink specials, music, movies, giveaways and more. Clear out the garage—we’re not limited to ski gear only!

    Forest Service Update:
Stay tuned for an update on the trailhead development construction schedule, and other news from our friends at the US Forest Service.

Thanks for your continued interest and support. Keep in touch with any questions or comments at fobp_info@yahoo.com

    See ya at The Pass!

Thanks for the updates Pinner. Good to see the FOBP crew at the Avy Jam on Friday.

The gear swap sounds like a third world bazaar. Should be a good time with lots of bargaining and good deals.

You guys get a venue for the Boulder avy 3/4? Or do I need to heckle those drunkards some more? Unfortunately I didn't get picked for the Board of Directors for Boulder Freeride, but they said they'd like to work with me on some ideas, so maybe I could get a little more pull than I might have otherwise...

    HA! Thas funny.

Hey all, FOBP really needs your help.

We are venue-less for our Denver classroom sessions and we're running out of time. Tentative dates are Oct 23 or Oct 24; and again somewhere around Nov. 13-16 (depending on what date we confirm Boulder) We'll know this week exactly. Classroom sessions run from 7:00pm-10:00pm (Hacksaw covers a LOT of material)

We need a room that can accomodate a minimum of 80 people and up to 120+ people (that's how many showed one night last year). It can be a lecture hall, theater, auditorium, gymnasium, church basement, conference room, warehouse, anyplace like that. If it's really big and cavernous, we'd need a small PA system so Hacksaw doesn't have to shout all night.

It's to every backcountry skier's benefit to make these classes happen, whether you ski Berthoud or not. The more educated users we have, the safer the backcountry and the better able we are to watch out for each other. It would be a terrible shame to not pull this off just because I couldn't get us a room.

So I'm asking for your help.
