    Shreddin' India

I'm a student, and in stead of studdying abroad, i'm gunna shred abroad. I'm going to India, but i'm having trouble finding specific places to check out. Have any of you ever been there?

    where would you go?

The himalayas are pretty big... where are some sweet places to ride?

Hmmm, not sure the name, but I know a guy in Squaw (Kip Garre, semipro guide dude), who spent most of last winter out there. He was working at a very large resort getting their patrol trained up on snow safety etc. He said the place was vast with some really sweet stuff.

I think I would know it if I heard it......and I will try to find out more.

Search for Gulmarg or Manali - there are many posts in the main forum. There are no big resorts in India currently.

gulmarg in kashmir is a hot spot and one I am trying to get to for about two weeks in early january. let me know if that might work with your timeframe and we could hook up for some shredage, but you have to have bc gear and skills. not sure if the gondola there is open in the winter or not. getting from srinagar to gulmarg is supposed to be fairly hectic...

other than that, manali is the place, but again all BC...

BC is all I ski anymore... i haven't even bothered buying a pass in colorado for a few years now. I'm leaving around thanksgiving 2007 and will be taking off around June 2008. If you're around keep in touch, we'll have to shred for sure.

Do you think i'll need anything more than the standard beacon/shovel/probe/axe?

the resort is basically lift accessed BC. Cnsidering the area and problems within it I personally wouldnt want to go trekking off on my own.

Check out ski himalayas.com i think a guy named peter was one of the first there. very limited lodging etc.

nothing that won't require an expedition permit of some kind and the cash that goes with. Anything and everything interesting the Nepalis charge for. Have some ginger tea, a chapati and a wild freshly rolled joint Sa'b.

If you are looking for all the dirt cheap ski mountaineering you can handle in May, go to Peru.
