    Another stupid ipod / itunes

So, I have my ipod autosynced (seemed like a good idea at the time) to my ibook. I somehow deleted all my mp3's. I have NO idea how. I feel like the person that "accidentally" formats their hard drive. I don't know, maybe I was drunk and trying to do something.

In any case I need to get the songs on my ipod back onto my computer.

I understand that a) you can get a program to do that and b) when you connect your ipod and hold down ctrl and apple, it won't autosync.

So, should I install one of the programs, open it, and then connect my ipod, while holding down ctrl and apple? Then download my ipod material? Is that the best way to go? …or is there a better way?

iTunes likes to take control of your music and will copy your music to it's music folder and delete the originals. Bad software. You can disable that crap in Preferences -> Advanced.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

you might not need the program. When you plug it in, stop the autosync and explore the ipod. In one of the hidden folders, there should be something like 50 folders with all of your music in them. Just copy and paste these files to your desktop, and go from there.

I have windows and enabled by ipod for harddrive use, so i dunno if this will work on a mac, but it could save you some $

Don't do the autosync, this will erase all the music. Do what mc_roon says. Set windows to search/show hidden files and folders and do a search for *.mp3 or *.mp4 on the drive that shows up when you plug it in. Copy all the files to your computer. It will wipe all the names of the file but the artist/song tags will still be in the file.

Will also work but I don't think the demo will work for this, you'd have to buy a copy.
