    Syndesmosis recovery time?

After falling on my Mt. bike (while riding on the local bike path I must add). I suffered a syndesmosis sprain of the ankle as well as a Fibula fracture.

Two screws later and theyve got me in a non walking cast PIA, four more weeks and aparently they take me out of this, putting on I have no clue what.

What I am really concerned about though is screw removal/recovery how soon does this start..? I think ill shrivel up and sit in the corner if I cant ski this season. The doc has been pretty vague Anyone have a similar injury or more experience?

Syndesmosis sprains combined with a fracture like that can be tough. Mostly because the injury invovles the joint space of the ankle called the mortise.

Even without the fracture a syndesmosis sprain might take a couple months to heal.

But to give you some hope, I worked with a young lady last spring with a similar injury. she had a fracture like yours in Feb and was able to make her trip to Costa Rica for hiking/ touring kinds of stuff in May.

As for removal for the screws they generally don't do that until around 6 mo. IIRC. You should really ask your doc that question.

So I guess my answer for you is that maybe you'll be able to ski, but likely not until late in the season. But yet again don't take my word for it, Ask you doc some direct questions. He will be able to give much more info that me.

Good luck and iff you have more questions please ask and I'll see if I can answer them.
