    Plattekill TR 1/31-2/1

I didn't want to throw any wrenches into the EC mini, so I just went to Plattekill quietly. Knee to thigh deep freshies top to bottom all weekend long. I think I was the only skier in the trees cause nobody else had enough float (no base). Since there was no base, it was hard to tell the difference between rocks and patches of grass, so a few rocks were hit. But Exploders are tough bitches. Mountain bike trails were a blast. Oh, and top to bottom fresh pow on every run.

But if we schedule another mini on a day when it doesn't snow 2 feet somewhere closer, I swear I'l make it.

Plattekil is a blast. I have not skied there in a few years, but it is definitely a skiers mountain, kind of the MRG of the Catskills. I keep an eye on their website and occasionally get some reporst from my brother who still lives close by. Sounds like they had a great weekend. Do they have the whole mtn open yet?

100% open though there were bare spots on trails without snowmaking. I think they could motivate with the chainsaw a little more often too.

Yeah, as if Lazlo would actually spend any of his money to make improvements.

I don't know Plakes, I think he has done pretty good with what he has. Compare what is there now to what was htere 10 years ago. They have upgraded to air-water snowmaking on most of the mountain. And back in the day when I was a local, snowmaking was pretty much a joke and the lodge was about as no frills as you could get. And compared to what is there right now that is really saying something. And remember he did just put in the double chair last year which makes the T-bar side more accessable than in the past because the old diesel that ran the t-bar was unreliable at best. I think he is definitely headed in the right direction but it will be a continual struggle for them having to depend on what mother nature provides.
