    Donate Blood Today!!!!!!

A fellow maggot just had major trauma surgery, and required a lot of blood. The blood he received was there for him because of people like you and me who donate it voluntarily. There is always a shortage of blood in this country and volunteer donors are always needed. I am not affiliated with any donor program, nor is this spam. I have donated gallons of blood since I first stuck my arm out in 1976, and feel real good that blood I donate last week has helped a fellow maggot, how ever indirectly. It doesn't matter if you are in Grand Junction, Boston or LA, your blood if helpful nationally.

We, as a group, are very active in our chosen pursuits, and are therefore at a greater risk for such trauma as our fellow maggot suffered, and may need blood ourselves some day.

So I challenge all Maggots out here to donate blood ASAP and post up here that you are helping fellow maggots and others by doing so. I just donated last week, so can not do so until the end of October, but I will donate as soon as I am eligible. It does not hurt, and you won't even know you are down a pint,( you can make it up with a pint of beer).

    Maggots are the best.

Me too. I wish I could, prior to the restrictions I did regularly.

If you've never done it before, do it for those of us who wish we could and for those lives you may save.

    Stupid stupid rule.

Because of course everyone in Europe is dropping like flies from the blood they're donating.

I'm not allowed to donate blood. I donated seven days ago, and you can only donate every 56 days.

    remind me in 49 days.

I get free pizza for donating blood.

True that, on both counts. I have been drinking extra pints of Bass since I last donated, got to keep hydrated they said.

Never have figured out the Euro thing, the no sex with male drug using prostitutes from Africa make sense though.

The blood donation status in the US is always lower than the demand. Next time you donate, sign up for a double red cell donation. This REALLY helps out.

I didn't even know that was possible. They'll let you give two pints?

The euro restriction is pretty stupid.

Though it gives me a better excuse than explaining how I've passed out every time I tried to donate blood and the Red Cross told me to quit wasting their supplies and scaring people when my eyes roll back in my head and such. So yes, I'm a complete wuss with needles. Do I get any points for trying multiple times anyway?

Also on the list of stupid things is that when they only get a half a pint out of me before I pass out, they throw it away because they only use full pint.

    Member...3 gallon club.

Never have figured out the Euro thing,
It is from the Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease...aka...mad cow disease.

apparently it can remain dormant for a long time before it rears it's ugly head.

Tattoo's also will keep people from donating (within a year). It's no wonder there's always a shortage.

Actually no, it's two units of just red blood cells. It's an automated process that extracts the red cells and then gives you back your own plasma (plus saline), which actually keeps you better hydrated than a standard donation. They use a smaller needle too.
It does take a few minutes longer, and you can't donate as frequently.

    pint.

    Absolutely, props for trying

They don't like me to donate the 2pint way, they want my whole blood. I have very boring blood, O neg, CMG neg, which apparently is in high demand for babies. The vampires are always calling me to suck my blood, which I let them do. I have no idea how many gallons I've bled over the years.

i thought that too. after the first time i tried to donate (found out later about C-J and had to call and have them destroy the blood) i tried to do a pretty hard swim workout. really freaked the lifeguards out when i climbed out and passed out on the deck halfway through the set.

We had a blood drive at the hospital where I spend all my waking hours on Monday. I donated and got a cookie.
Not on here much anymore. Drop me an email if you want to contact me. Have a wonderful winter!

"Persons who have spent long periods of time in countries where 'mad cow disease' is found are not eligible to donate. "
    What, like the US? Canada?

I got a free luuch at FatBurger. They don't give out the coupon until after you donate, they don't want the cholesterol levels to be too high.
