Leo Kottke's "6 & 12 string guitar" vs. Hot Tuna's first album "live".

Both fantastic but different. 'Water Song' on Burgers gets a mention and let's not forget John Fahey.

Yes they are different but they are two of the finest examples of finger picked acoustic guitar ever recorded in my opinion. Leo w/ a nod towards the virtuoso and Jorma w/ a nod towards song structure and grace.

Water Song is pure sublime brilliance !

John Fahey, no let's not forgot him because history almost did and he was one hell of a guitarist !

Entirely different genre, but give any Tal Farlow song a listen. A forgotten, maybe never even known mindblowing jazz guitarist.

'My Feet Are Smiling' got a bunch of play in my dusty past.

So, we gonna ski/ride/glide Silverton this year?

I don't know much about him other than a flimsy plastic insert record Guitar World Magazine included back in the early eighties. I will have to check him out again.

Ah Silverton... I need to get back there, especially w/ someone like yourself who has some "pull"

I saw him in Jersey in the late 70's and the guy was a-maz-ing. Could play the guitar left or right handed like it was on fire.

I'll likely be lurking there some. Remember that it's unguided until Jan 18, so if there's a decent dump, hit it. I'll try to remember to volley out a warning when I go, either just before xmas (Cletus?) or just after.

There are so many great Airplane tunes: 3/5 mile in 10 seconds, up or down, got a revolution, plastic fantastic lover, and all the kickass Jorma acoustic stuff like Turn My Life Down and Third Week In The Chelsea. Too bad everyone only remembers that sack o' shit, the Starship.

Jorma, Jack and Barry played a small club in Morgantown (Rosewood - RIP) almost a year ago to the day, one of the finest acoustic performances I've witnessed.

I must thank this thread and posters for opening my ears to Fahey and Kotke. Just bought Best of Fahey and Kotke's 6 & 12 string. Man what planet have I been on. Fantastic. I must have played Kotke's "Busted Bicycle" 10 x on the way to work today. My feet are still movin'.

Very glad to hear that you liked them so much, very cool !

Yeah "bicycle" is very infectious I love that tune. Keep in mind that Leo's whole album is live, single take, no overdub style playing. One guy, one guitar, one mic, that's it !

Hey now board, Kottke is raw on that record for sure. What power and beauty. 6&12 String flat out rocks. Cripes, Fahey to. ANy other recommendations from those guys--like I am not going to seek all they have put out. Actually, I have started the search for their LPs as, man, I cannot get THAT sound any other way.

Ever read the liner notes in the cd for 6&12 string? I can't believe no one edited them over the years...killer. Thanks again
