    Chavez is crazy

Alternate title: "why is there no thread discussing the UN convention?"

    http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/americ....un/index.html

This article is hilarious... and he even freaking held up a book by Chomsky! I thought Iran's speech last night was really good, and here comes Chavez attempting to make the same points yet comes off as an angry loon.

I think he's far more likely right than wrong on this.

Bush is the devil ha. I watched Iran's speech on c-span while downloading the Black Sabbath Discography and that guy seems pretty nice. Too bad he's all BS.

He makes good points- mainly that the security council isn't working- but "this podium smells of sulfur" ... come on.

Clinton's take on it on larry king tonight should be interesting, i'm looking forward to that.

No John Stewarts take on it, as well as Wolf Blitzer's interview with shrub, is going to be good. I can feel it!

Chavez's retaining power is contingent upon focusing people away from what he is actually doing

When oil hits 40 bucks a barrell, Chavez will be lynched by his own people. He has had his 15 minutes. Chao.

Who? Much of Venezuala, particularly the poor, love him and his anti-imperialist socialism. Same with Evo Morales in Bolivia. Both will have the problem Cono mentioned - they've been funding with high energy prices and that gravy train may be thinning.

Yes, I would like a clarification on what you think he is 'actually doing'.

This might be unrelated to any of this but Venezuela is just chock full of beautiful women.I spent a month there about 15 years ago and sheeit, them girls are gorgeous. The visit would make a hilarious TR but unfortunately my ex wife is in possession of the photos.

Highlights of the trip included my buddy "buying" a girlfriend for a week who spoke not a word of English, and the removal of a couple of touristas at machine gun point from the airplane on the way home. Venezuela is a cool f'n place

from CNN hype about Blitzer interview

"NEW YORK (CNN) -- President Bush said Wednesday he would order U.S. forces to go after Osama bin Laden inside Pakistan if he received good intelligence on the fugitive al Qaeda leader's location."

Understandably Pakistan is less than happy about the suggestion. Who can blame them?

Invading and probably starting a civil war in Pakistan would be a level of stupidty beyond even the current war In Iraq or the hoped for one in Iran.

Civil wars in countries that have nukes are usually bad...

Perhaps a covert snatch and grab of Bin Laden would be better...

I'm sure we could get away with invading their airspace with a few helos...

take a look at what the Ayatollah's have done to Iran's oil industry. Instead of having a have's and have nots, everyone is a have not. I'd say Venezuela is about where Iran was in 1985.

the only reason that the US media is targeting chavez is we currently rely on Venezuala to keep from becoming completely OPEC dependant like every other fucking nation. Chaves knows this and uses it as a bargaining chip to resist the control that the US exerts on every other country in this hemisphere. it takes a much shorter time to get oil from venezuala to a gas pump then from saudi arabia and is therefore necessary to prevent huge fluctuations in the market created by spikes in demand/consumption. Bush can't handle negotiations so we might as well line him up for a coup.

As always, the wealthy are doing quite well.

The unusual thing is that the have-nots - and Venezuela has plenty - have made remarkable progress under Chavez.

Unlike, say, the have-nots under G.W. Bush.

What all communist dictators do, he is taking from the rich and giving to the poor. Then, when all the rich have fled or been destroyed there won't be anything left to give to the poor and he will be overthrown. Unless he is able to convince his countrymen that there is a foreign devil responsible for their problems. In which case he will remain in power and the country will grind itself into ruin.

"There is no rule of law here," said Puche, who accuses state officials of encouraging land grabs by declaring his and dozens of other farms state land.

Takeovers like this are part of President Hugo Chávez's recently accelerated land redistribution campaign..."

You've described every Latin American regime - except they were take from rich and give to cronies making new group of rich.

It's not like the continent has a history of stability and prosperity with any flavor of government, or the rich in any of the countries obtained their wealth by hard work in a free market.
