If it's an uphill landing I'm all over it. I find hidden creek beds like nobody's bidness.

And my fritschis have always held up fine........not releasing, staying on my feet while I hang upside down with my head in the water.

Gnarl light. I'm the wrong guy to ask if you're looking for big drop feedback.

I don't jump off anything big but I've certainly put myself in some situations where falling meant wooburgers with them. I've never felt they were overly flexy with stiff skis on icy chutes or compromised how I wanted to ski etc. The stuff I ski doesn't hold a candle to some of the whacked shit UAN has skied down even on the old titanals. For whatever it's worth all my skis had fritschis on them and I used them at resorts all the time. Never had a problem with my stuff. But I also go bikeriding if the snow's not cherry.

The guy I started backcountry skiing with a few years ago weighed 220, was about 6'3" and jumped off just about everything in sight that had a decent tranny landing. He used those titanal IIs for years and then some freerides and never had any serious problems.

I wouldn't stress about it. Especially at your wieght. I think most of the whining you'll hear here needs to taken with a grain of salt. Especially that insta-tele bidness. This is the first place I ever even heard of it and I tried my damnedest to get it to happen with a bunch of backseat landings on maiden aks (!!!). Just get them mounted correctly.

Check UANs post about a broken toe piece in the SA thread. Ever since he first posted that I've checked mine every few hikes but haven't had it happen. It's also the only time I've seen that failure mentioned.

Thanks kidwoo, that's confidence insipiring. I will definately be getting freerides this year, and hopefully with the new changes they've made to them, they'll be even better.

is that the pair you tried to sell me???

if you want another point of reference, i saw mark newcomb shortly after he came off of 'talk is cheap' this year -- which is pretty widely regarded as on of the more butt-clenching descents in the sidecountry surrounding jackson hole resort -- on titanal IIs (or were they 3s).

mount them right. and have good form (or eat less ), esp in the air....or just don't do stupid drops to flat/hardpack.

i know tons of folks that do huge air regularly, but i now very few that do what skier666's post above says -- >20 to hardpack. it's not that they're not capable, it's just that it's not fun and it's hard on bodies + gear (AT *and* alpine). that's why i question it and how often it happens.

Nah, his were all larges. (duh)

All my stuff came from telemark pyrenees back when you could get bindings for the cost of a healthy american booger in an envelope.

btw, i got your message re: my gear you want...

not ignoring it -- it's just that i shouldn't make such decisions when my head isn't clear (i'm dealing with flu fall-out...literally. )

i do think we can work something out, though.
