Ohio TR (pics) - Alum Creek 9-15-06

Thought yall might (enjoy? hmm not the right word...be interested to see?) some pics from the local XC loop here in Columbus. Knocked it out on a lunch loop today so can't complain about the proximity. And while it's not epic by any means, it's actually pretty fun. There are two trails, each one a 6 mile loop. Lots of twisty trail through the forest, a bunch of bridges and ladders and logs...enough to keep you entertained for an hour or two for sure.

It's actually been fun to experience a COMPLETELY different style of riding out here. It's still mountain biking, but it's challenged me to adapt my riding to the terrain, weather, and stunts. Diversity is good I suppose. Anyway here are the pics:

This is the only spot on either trail that you break out of the forest. I always breathe a big sigh of relief here...I can see! For just a minute...

    ...then it's back inside:

...and a couple more. The trail cruises around lots of finger arms of Alum Creek reservoir, so you get some nice water views along the way:

Looks like some Missouri riding I used to do. Lots of scratchy arms and legs after those rides and the occasional stinging nettle and whatnot...
    I think I'm going mad.

Mountainbiking in Ohio can actually be a ton of fun if you know where to go! I remember I did a mtn bike race there a few years back and I was the ONLY girl! It's so different riding in CO than Ohio. Ohio has much more mud and I found myself slipping all over the roots Hope you had a good ride.

Those trails look a lot like the mtn biking I did when I lived in Charlotte.

ptex, yeah I'd forgotten about your time in MO...I'm sure it's similar to lots of places on the eastern half of the country. Rolling, lots of trees. Total blair watch project forests Glad I could provide some nostalgia for some of you. Went to the OSU/Cinci game today for our first Buckeye home game experience - wow. Can't really put it into words. But it was fun. I think I'm turning midwestern...hahahaha yeah right

Looks like fun -- similar to some of our flatter local trails here in Portland, but with way fewer roots/rocks. Oh, and anything that close to water here is likely to be full of poison ivy until mid-November. Nice to have a place to ride at lunch, though!

    Hehe Afro. I luuuuuv it

And BTW the photos I took happened to be of the smooth sections. There are definitely quite a few roots and logs to deal with on the trail...
