Although not necesarily groundbreaking, this stuff is pretty cool (and light as hell)

    Spread spectrum wireless transmission.

Absolutely critical tech invented by an absolute hottie, Hedy Lamarr.

I went to the Building Museum in D.C. last weekend, they have a "Green House" exhibit running, and the fiber optic/L.E.D. lighting system in use was the coolest thing in the exhibit by far. It was really the only new technology in use there that wasn't available when we built our house seven years ago, the rest was just improvements and variations on themes.

(cj001f engages in free market research - he makes LEDs)

What's the main appeal/coolest factor of them to you & BH?

Flexible Form Factor? Multicolour possibilities? They are much more efficent, but also $$$

I had to replace my S with something....
Efficiency is key for me as well as temperature. I don't mind the initial $ outlay if it keeps my cost low in the long run and helps me dose myself with patchouli oil while I whip myself with macrame' during my eternal transcendent hipness dance and prayer for cosmik guidance.

The cost will come down as they are accepted and manufacturing is simplified, doncha think?

Colors are cool too, it shows off my crystals and world bead better.

Obviously they are most impressed by the fact that you make LEDs.

I bought an LED Flashlight. I hate it, and want my Xenon Bulb one back. Fuck power savings, I want light, goddammit.

Do you realize that you've just posted an admission of ignorance so breathtaking that it disqualifies you from commenting on any political or economic threads from here on out?

The money is a downer but I'm sure they'll come down over time (right?). Efficiency and I guess what you called "flexible form factor" are what intrigued me, in the Museum they've used the LEDs in various fixtures ranging from undercabinet lighting to virtual candleabras and a lot of other stuff, the whole system had a "wow" factor for me.

Yeah, prices will come down (substantially) but it'l be a bit before they are as cheap as flourescent or incandescent.

Well if you had a fiber optic catheter you could light up just about any body part you felt needed illumination.

So, do you make LEDs for use in homes?

If I was to build another house in the near future I would definitely string fiber optic lines along with the electric even if I didn't use LED lighting right out of the gate.

Not really. We are small & onshore so it's mostly niche applications like medicine & defense. Like practically every other industry the big volume players are mostly Asian.
