CB and Gunny are two completely different things. That said both places bring about the same thing to the table. Gunny has a more conservative ranching community that does Durango. My sister hated Gunny, but she's only a casual skier.

    Personally I'd go to UNR.

    Gunny. CB is good times.
The only reason to go to Derange-o is Silverton is a short drive.

it's a bit of a toss up, really. CB is sick when the snow is good, which can be super hit or miss. There is some awesome BC/touring/ sled skiing in the butte and the west elks, where the now defunct Irwin Lodge was, gets massive amounts of snow. Gunny isn't really very cool and it is the icebox of the state - super fucking cold. Durango is a much, much cooler town than the gunny, but purg SUCKS. that said, you cannot discount the proximity of both silverton and telluride, which definitely do not suck. personally, knowing both very well, i would be more inclinded to choose Durango. I think the living experience is much nicer and silverton an hour away - that's the goods... T-ride, as well, even though it would be two hours away has truly world-class side country that I think is hands down superior to anything at the butte. also wolf creek is only an hour fifteen fron durango so you've got the early season monster dumps covered on that angle too. oh yeah, there is some pretty awesome boating in and around durango that gunny doesn't really have if that is a factor. durango has a way better trail network for riding than gunny, but the butte has some massively classic mtb trails as well... tough choice - why not get out this way and check them both out and make up your own mind?...

You're giving such crap information in this thread it boggles my fucking mind. I always thought you were a nit wit but today you've proven it beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Gunny sucks all the time. Hands down it's a freaking armpit of redneck ranchtards. CB is great if and when it gets snow. Monarch is the uber meh with even more uber meh cat skiing.

Durango is one of the coolest towns to live in in the entire country, let alone Colorado. It sits square between Wolf Creek and Silverton, with Purgatory as a consolation prize 28 miles from campus and Telluride a mere 90 minutes away. WC gets more snow than anywhere in the state and Silverton needs no explaining.

FLC is and always will be a far greater education than Western State. FLC is like a small private school that you go to for the price of a cheap in state school. Westfer State is where all the freaking ranchers kids go to learn how to inseminate a cow and prevent bol weavel infestations in the winter wheat crops. Seriously, there was a rodeo club that would go out on friday nights and lasso fire hydrants. Yeehaw! In my mind only Colorado College offers a better under grad education in CO. 10 years out of college and I still converse with some of my proffesors regularly. That's how well you can get to know them if you seize the oppourtunity afforded to you there. I got a full ride scholarship to law school coming out of FLC so I don't believe the education is looked down upon.

Finally, Durango is the type of place you dream about when it's -40 degrees in Gunny and CB hasn't seen snow in a month. D-town beats Gunny in every aspect: bars, restaurants, cycling (road and mtb), kayaking, bigger airport, and more jobs. My brothere attended WS while I was at FLC. I stayed in Durango for 7 years, he left Gunny after 18 months and moved to SLC and the U of U. No way in hell could I ever advise someone to move to Gunny.

Durango is a great town, there is not doubt about that. FLC is a joke of a school, though. Most employers in denver could care less about a FLC degree, much less putting it on your resume to gain employment elsewhere.

second best school in CO. My god you are a dipshit.

Sorry truth because you've pissed on so many parades I'm not gonna get too worked up over your criticism* I dunno why me thinking that Gunny over Durango is such a personal affront to you and I apologize for so disparaging something that you've obviously invested a tremendous amount of personal pride and identity into.

Although...I'm not sure how much this is helping the poor girl find a school...powchick...I didn't go to either school but truff went to Ft. Lewis.

Second best education. The best school is a matter of perception, education is matter of the knowledge imparted by said school. Employers that look at a the name of a school alone are not worth working for. That's the path of cubicle hell and squabling over red staplers. If you want to be a number go to CU, CSU, WSU et al. If you want an interactive and personalized education look elsewhere. Any education should give back as much as you put in. Most state schools fail miserably at this. They offer lessons in regurgitation rather than chances to learn to think. Choose your education wisely and it'll be more than you could have hoped for. Rely on US news and World Reports rankings and you're nothing more than a class rank and a grade point average.

Your personal opinon of schools you have first had experience with is the issue at hand. I have no need to defend my educational resume for it has served me well. Offering up recommendations based on speculation is a disservice to powderchick as your ingorant assumptions are touted as facts she might actually use to make a rather important choice with. You have no 1st hand knowledge of the subject so STFU.

May I interrupt our bitchfest to address the question, as phrased?

Purgatory is pretty bland, but as our little love fest illuminates, that's not a measure of the skiing around Durwango. Don't discount Wolf Creek, Silverton and T'ride. (90 minutes to T'ride? How did you go?)

And if you want to argue edukashuel quality or reputation, go with Harvey Mudd, Cal Tech or Reed.

And in the large, I'm more guilty than those here of the petty personal gala de bitch. But doesn't it ever get old? I know I do and don't.

So YOU got a great education at Fort Leisure. Anyone can get a great education at any school....your positives listed about FLC are completely applicable to ANY college or university in the country. Get your head out of your ass, for everyone's sake.

FLC has a great cycling team, and Durango has more 'culture' and would be a better town to live in, IMHO.

It's called cultivated immaturity. But the soil seems to be getting thin. Too much fertilizers?

And man, did we hippy out this summer: Solar heating (no solar latex beef, though) and really took advantage of the sun and never used the dryer until today.
Tomato plants are just killin' it. Some yellow heirloomers are just spewing out huge juicy monsters. Awesome basil stash, dill for the salmon and halibut and made a bunch of dill/tomato/galic sauce. Rasberries are going gangblasters. And the sunflowers are just starting...
