    Car stereo/speaker ???

I installed a new pioneer stereo in a 99 Jeep Cherokee last night, and prior to installation, the front speakers didn't work at all. Thinking it was the balance control on the stock stereo, I just installed the new one. Surprise, they still don't work....any car stereo experts here want to tell me what's going on or at least how to troubleshoot?

Bad news -- now you have to take off the door panels and check the speakers and wiring. By '99 Chrysler was moving to plastic barb-type rivets which are a pain. Having the right door panel tool helps.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

Check the wiring between the reciever and the front speakers. You could use a voltameter, or just rewire them. The speakers might be shot too, you could inspect them for damage, or try and put another source of audio through them.

This sounds like it's on the stereo end of the wiring since it's both speakers. They might not have wired them into the harness. Do a pin-to-pin check on the car's end of the harness and make sure that there's wires going into the pins that match up with the front speaker pins on the stereo's side of the harness. If there isn't poke around and see if they're around. Otherwise you may not have wires for those speakers, which would indeed suck. If they're there, you should be able to get them into the harness somehow, or you could you just crimp them directly to the stereo's cables.

Are you even sure there are speakers in the openings? Was this a used car? Maybe someone put in new speakers and took them out without putting in the old speakers.
