Things to do or see in Dusseldorf?

I've got to go next week and will have a fair amount of free time.

Seriously, the only thing to do in Duesseldorf is to shop for women's clothing.

...you can always take a train to Amsterdam. YES!!!

"Altbier" is originally from Duesseldorf, simply known as Alt here in the US and now a popular menu item in US microbreweries. Good shit. Other than a small part of the city along the river it's pretty fucking dull like Schindler stated - like a northerly version of Frankfurt - which is an oddity for the Rhineland which really likes to party. The one exception is during Carnival (Mardi Gras,) but even then Cologne and Mainz have much better scenes.

Drink some Altbier at the Diebels Brewery, if possible, then get on a boat and go to Cologne. The "K/D" (Koelln Duesseldorfer) ships run between the two cities and are pretty cool. You can actually take one all the way to Remagen I think, which is where the allies crossed the Rhine. Cologne is a much...MUCH funner city, and the beer/girls/scene there is second to very few cities in Yurp, IMHO.

If you do get to Cologne check out the "Frueh Koelsch" brewery near the Cathedral ("Dom.") After getting lubed just check out the scenery on the Domplatz - the square in front of the Cathedral, and talk to the Ladieth. They'll clue you in on some kickin' clubs in the area if that's your scene.

There's also a really neat Roman Museum next to the Dom. Cologne was an outpost of the empire.
