    Good deal on a Subie?

    1999 Legacy AWD Wagon
    113,000 miles
good condition, some options (rack, moonroof, etc)
owners are my cousin and husband, I highly doubt this car was anything but well cared for. They're getting a truck to pull a horse trailer and unloading this to family for the trade-in value.

    $4500.00

    Good deal?

Good deal on the car but I still think it is weird that your husband owns a car with your cousin.

That is very reasonable mileage for a '99, but has the head gasket been replaced? It will probably blow within 50,00 more miles if not. If you know how to do the job on the boxer engine than it is no big deal cuz the part is cheap but you have to pull out the whole motor. If you have a mechanic you're friendly with he'll probably do it for $600-800, otherwise it'll be a $1200 job. Great cars but the gasket is their achilles heel.

I don't think the gasket was replaced.

Can you tow a small trailer with one of these. Say for a sled?

    is it a 6cyl or the 4?

the 4 is a bit underpowered for road trips and probably even more so for towing, but I bet you could get by.

Also, the pre 2000 subies have some problems, there was some gasket thing.

All in all, it doesn't seem like a bad deal, but not that great either.

You couldn't get the 6cyl in a Legacy in 1999. 2.5 or 2.2 4cyl. Either engine shouldl be fine for that model year. It's the 98 2.5's that were so terrible.
