    Swix Pro 500 vise problem

So I'm using a vice that uses a false boot like this to secure the ski:

Good system, but with Look/Rossi turntable heels the problem is the arms that connect the heelpiece 'bottle' part to the part that's attached to the ski keep the boot from fully engaging. It gets somewhat secure, but only partially pushed down (like if you try to put one on with a bunch of snow under the heel of your boot). The only thing I can think to do is to shave off 1/4" of plastic from both sides of the rear end of the false boot.
Good idea? Other ways to deal with this?
Nice little vise system, but not good with turntable heels.

edit: the vises are pretty cheap ($80) at Reliable Racing.

$20 more and you can get really nice swix 3 point vices, they are usually more but they go on sale allot

is that false plastic "boot" dynafit compatible?

can you just use a strong rubber band (or coat-hanger) from one brake arm to the other to keep it out of the way and eliminate use of that boot, or is that boot integral to the stability of the ski in the vises?

not 100% sure what you mean by "bottle", but why is shaving off a bit of plastic so bad it that'll make it work?

The bottle top is that anal probe part of a turntable heel--the part that sticks up in the air behind the boot and looks a little like the top of a glass bottle when the boot is in the binding.
yeah, the false boot is the way the ski is secured, not a real vise.
I prefer this to normal vises because you don't have to worry about having trouble gripping high-angle cap construction sidewalls.
Not that big a deal, i was able to basically tune the way i wanted to, it's just the ski is at a tail-high angle because the false boot is completely engaged (so it's high in the binding pushing everything up in the rear).

you can round off the square "heel" part of the Pro 500 to get it to fit the turntables(i did it on our shops grinder back in the day) plus if you are tuning any skis with bindings that have high DINS and "traditional heels" (any non LOOK/ROSSI) you can stop the heel from shattering by runniing a couple of 3 inch wood screws (drill a pilot hole) into the heel length wise

i would post a picture but some scum of the earth stole my tool box from anatioanls about 5 years ago......

as far as heel height just stack a block of wood under the individual vise parts to raise the entire contraption off the bench (this allows the heel to clear the bench top).....
