    Moab....thoughts, etc.

So I'm thinking I'm gonna head out to Moab a couple weekends from now to test out my new ride. I'm thinking Amasaback, Porcupine Rim and possibly Bartlets Wash (assuming I can find it). Any suggestions besides the obvious (i.e. slickrock, Behind the Rocks). I was also thinking about the new singletrack (I can't think of the name right now), but I'm kinda wanting some more downhill time. Any other 'lesser knowns' that might be better than Barlets or the Rim?

PS - if anyone wants to try and meet up in Moab and ride something, I'm all ears

Maybe kind of obvious, but how about Sovereign? That's a pretty fun ride (do as an out and back though, not a loop -- more fun that way).

You'd be hard pressed to find anything better/funner than Porcupine in Moab. The 3 you listed are damn good choices and plenty to keep you busy.

If you're looking for more DH time, Sovereign's probably not the answer.

D'oh. My bad - I somehow missed the "more DH time" part. Yes, that definitely rules out Sovereign.

Porc Rim and Amassa Back would be my votes (although I haven't tried the ones Beast mentioned... I'm intruiged).

    Hold out? Moi?

Actually, I've never ridden them. I only know of them from beasts's Moab TR this spring.

Daves is a short, fun little bit (about 3 minutes worth) of flow from the ridge w/antennas thats between the Lions Back flats (think cattleguard and big gravel lot on the left on Sand Flats Rd across from landfill entrance when going up to Slickrock) down to town.
Chili Pepper goes from Hells Revenge (Slickrock trail-ish) down to where else? Longer, but it takes a bit more to access it. Fun, short locals trails.

Per usual, yentna and i are planning on a couple fall trips to moab. She has the dates and is drunk in tahoe at the moment so I can't tell you when that is. I'm sure she'll be checking in though.

The Chili trail actually makes for an ok loop from town or evening shuttle since you have to ride out Slickrock a mile or two. I used to ride Daves alot because I lived right near the bottom and would climb the DH bike up the road to do a lap or two on the Practice Loop, then hit Daves on the way back to town. Good afterwork ride. We had weekly local races down Daves for while until somebody went 15ft to face in parking lot. That put the kibash on that event.

As far as other stuff to ride goes, you should def. check out the Amasa Back singletrack/Rockstacker for a little variation. Also the upper Porc Rim trails....ask in the shops to see if Hazard County is legit yet.

Hazard County is now legit. Rockstacker is the poop.

Trying to get out there for a social weekend with a ton of folks and then sneak away for a couple of more interesting rides the weekend of Oct 20th if anyone is interested.

Edit: Hazard v2.0 is much different than before... no mandatory airs over barbed wire fences...

Is Rockstacker the singletrack that veers off Amasa Back at the pipeline?

    No - that's Jackson's Trail. Amasa - Rockstacker - Jacksons makes a great loop.

I'll always miss v1.0. The jump out of the woods over the rock before the fence jump was my favorite. The fence jump was always interesting.

I am stoked theres a legit route up there now though.

Anybody wanna tell me about Rockstacker, or is "no, you're wrong" all I'm gonna get?

I thought Jackson's trail went into Jackson Hole. The trail I was referring to goes in the opposite direction towards the road and to the creek below the parking lot.

isn't that the singletrack that is only good to go after the water levels in the streams go down? have heard about it, sounds pretty technical.

isn't jackson's some sort of hike a bike? that goes down that cliff from into the valley?

also, pumped that hazard is good to go. is that the same ride as the 'whole enchilda'?

I think hazard is the start of the whole enchilada followed by kokopelli, ups, lps and porcupine.

yeah that is what i meant though didn't express it properly.

where is the shuttle drop off. someone told me it was the same as for UPS but then you had to pedal/climb to ride hazard, is that true?

www.utahmountainbiking.com has a decent section on moab.

Sack up and try to ride the entire Portal Trail without stepping off:
