Labor Day Weekend... we thought about hiking Cornice Bowl in Mammoth, as we skied it Labor Day last year. The snow there, though, is pretty much shot. Snow in the gully still, but there is no snow in the middle of the run.

So, we headed back to the Conness Glacier area. We decided to get our September turns on this patch above Greenstone Lake.

The last pitch was pretty steep... and when we got to the top, there was only a shelf about six inches wide. It was a tricky, butt-clenching gear swap... and thus, we didn't take any pictures. Sorry. Too busy holding on to everything for dear life.

The snow conditions were pretty much the same... glacier ice. A slip could send ya for a good ride. We did it, though... as our tracks prove.

A nice nap and a beverage to celebrate those September turns! Now we are praying for an early October dump!!!
