    Banff Area/Interior BC Mags

Gonna be driving back from Edmonton with the gf starting on the 18th with no real return to Van time other than be at school on monday the 25th... Decided on going down to banff/Canmore area instead of back through Jasper. Looking for suggestions on places to stay, things to see. Looking for either cheap places to stay, or parks where we can camp (gonna be bringing all camping/hiking gear) and some good hikes to do... Basically kinda swamped by all the info on the web as far as which camp site to go to, reservations, all that shit, looking to keep this a pretty fluid and spontaneous trip with nothing really etched in stone.

As well, any suggestion from interior BC Mags as to what to do once back in province would be rad!

Any help would be greatly appreciated and rewarded with beer...

Will be out in Golden weekend of Sept 16-17 if you want a place to pitch tent. Can show you the sights of the Blaeberry Valley.

Canmore - stay at Bow Valley campground right off the #1. Hike HaLing or Chinaman's Pk. Lots of other good hikes around there. Burstall Pass.

Golden - lots of free camping all over the place off the # 1 north of the Hwy. Drive up to KHMR and hike around maybe? Can also check out stuff up logging roads to the Mummery Glacier.

Glacier National Park - cheapish camping near Asulkan Hut. Too many hikes to name - maybe Great Glacier? Also good hiking around Mt Revelstoke National Park.

Look at www.clubtread.com for some threads on hiking Golden/Revy/GNP
The hiking around the Okanagans is mediocre compared to the Rockies/Columbia. Maybe skip that unless you want to twiddle around close to some lakes.

Must read more closely. Might be there the next weekend also but that doesn't leave much time to get back to Van. The pic is the Mummery Glacier falls below the glacier.
