    Mount Bohemia driving ???

Since joining this site you all introduced me to Mount. Bohemia.

Now if any of you have driven to the top edge of Michigan's U.P. I have a question.

Being at the bottom of the Southwestern of Michigan along the shoreline of Lake Michigan would it be better to drive around and up past Wisconsin or jsts go straight up Michigan?

Do you have any driving routes for winter time that you would recommend???

Have you mapquested it? I personally don't think it matters all that much, it's still gonna be like a whole day of just driving and you'll be spent after that. As for roads I think there's only one main highway in the peninsula.

I'll get back to you after my classes are done.

It would be better to just get on I- 80 and head west.

Right to the Gary, IN airport, where you can usually pick up cheap flights to Denver, SLC etc in less time than it takes to get all the way up into the UP. Probably less gas money too.

SLC I can understand but the UP gets more snow than CO. Besides, CO sucks. Everyone knows that.

My vote is for you to head to Muskegon and catch the ferry to Milwaukee. Then head north. Trouble is finding a way to get the ferry to run all winter.

I did a short sentence in Grand Rapids and just moved back to Houghton last week for............forever actually.

I did drive up a couple of times when I lived in GR. There are two good ways for you to go. First of all, don't go through Wisconsin. Chicago sucks and can add a rediculous amount of time to your trip. If there isn't a lot of Lake Effect Snow, take I-196 to US131. US131 to M72 through grayling. M72 to I-75. Stay on I-75 past the bridge. DON"T EVER TAKE US2 unless it's snowing up north on M28. Anyway, usually I take 75 to M123 which cuts at a diaganol toward newberry. Then take 28 across...you get the idea. The drive can be friggin brutal....but also can be absolutely beautiful.

If we're getting lake effect, take 96 across to lansing and then take 127 up to 75 through Mt. Pleasant. Then follow the same instructions as above. Be in tune with the weather. If it's blowin NW, stay away from the lakes.

PM me if you need anything. See you this winter.

Right on. Mapquest and Chicago traffic both tell you to fuck Wisconsin and go straight north. With gas coming down in price, some say $2.00 by Thanksgiving, and some decent snow, it will deffinetly be worth it. Just make sure to go later in the season than earlier, wait until atleast mid January if not February.

A road trip is def going to happen for me in late Feb.

I have driven both ways--straight up through Mich or around and up through Cheeseland.

It's pretty much the same drive (time wise) except you can screwed in D-town Chicago traffic.

If you decide to got through Milwaukee, hit old town and the Hoffbrau House...mmmmmm BEEER!!!

I have driven up to the UP from Indiana both ways, thru Wisconsin and thru the Mitten. I'd say go thru michigan, you don't have to deal with the shit around chicago, and it is silly for you to drive south to go north. If yer in South Haven area, I'd head up to 131 to the UP then over.

BTW, I may be working at the Anomoly premier at KZOO, stop buy the Swiss Valley display, and ask for change.

    Wink

I must be the only person here from the Mitten who thinks it's pointless to drive umpteen hours on crappy roads in potentially hazardous conditions when I can hop a flight and be in CO or UT in less time and less $$.

    Silly me!

Only thing, don't call this phone number. That contact does not work at the joint, nor does anyone know anything about the event...

Through Michigan, I'm guessing 8to10 hours for you to get to the Mac. bridge, and another 5 to 6 hours from the bridge to Bohemia.
The coefficent of desireability is inversly proportionate to the degree of availability.

And this is the reason I have not been up to Bohemia since it opened as a resort.

Steve is the marketing/promo guy for Timber Ridge, they hosted the show last year, I'm surprised he knows nothing about it.

Regardless, I can dig up additional details if necessary.

We'll be going out to Bells Brewry afterwords.

I'm guessing you're wrong. It took us 5.5 hours to get from northern IN to Boyne Highlands which isn't far from the Mac. bridge.

It is less than 30 miles to the bridge from Boyne Highlands, you can actually see the bridge Pylons on a clear day from the "summit".

A long estimate to drive from most anywhere in Southern Mi to Mack Bridge would be 6.5 hours at most.

With minimum stopping and a heavy foot, I could be there from Lafayette Indiana in 7.5 hours. and I'm 2 hrs south of the state line.

to answer the question, I'd avoid chi-town at all costs (unless there's a drinking mini)
    mapquest from lansing... 503mi, 8hr37min

Kzoo for skiporn and bells sounds decent though

There are days at Bohemia when the half hour drive from Houghton is barely worth it... I'd be real skeptical of driving 8.5 hours.
