It's been a coupla-few years since I've been there, but here's how it was when I was eating them:

The ones on the southeast side of the lot are the 2/$1 stands. The selection of meat varies day to day. Buy from whichever one has the meat you like...they taste the same, and all of them let you dress the taco yourself from a cooler next to the cart.

The cart on the west side of the lot costs $1, but the tacos are bigger, and you get a much better selection of toppings, including queso, sour cream, and guacamole.

Your choice, east or west, depends on whether you need liquid fats on your taco or whether you're OK with pure street style. I have never been sick from any of them...they're all pretty busy, and nothing is going to sit around long enough to go bad. There are a lot of carts on the side streets nearby, but they all charge a buck for the same taco you can get for 50c in the lot, and none of them are as good.

It's easy to get used to eating lunch for $2, $3 if you're really hungry.

There's a second Los Dos on La Jolla Blvd (#2, this one is Los Dos #1). across the street from the 7-11 by Windansea that used to have a "B" cleanliness rating when I was in high school. They hid the placard behind the Neo-Geo machine and either stole another one or used an old one with an "A" and displayed it right over the door so you pretty much hit your head on it every time you entered the place. This is pretty much the only time I've ever seen a "B" placard.[/QUOTE]

That is pretty funny man. and yes i agree the pollo B is pretty amazing. had one last night after driving home from work and thinking about this thread.

    cheers

I read this thread last night and got hungry, so I drove by here. Only problem is they only take cash.

Oh come on, would you trust any respectable taco shop with your CC#?
I'm pretty sure the Circle K has an ATM -- I must have had to use it at some point for this exact reason.

Gebster -- I'm down for tacos. I need to find a place to live in LA sometime this week but I'll spend plenty of time in SD for the next few weeks.

LA Tacos > SD Tacos. I’ll die on that hill.

The ability to walk into absolutely any strip mall taqueria in LA and have a great meal is truly amazing.

Best fish tacos in the United States are in Ventura Co.

Only tangentially related to this discussion but in trips down to California to visit family, I recently discovered Vallerta Supermarkets (https://vallartasupermarkets.com/en/store-locations/). I would give my right arm if one of those came to Seattle. it's sort of an upscale Mexican supermarket. Each store has a dedicated Taqueria, with cooked meats like carnitas, barbacoa, birreria, and even various house chicharrones by the pound, in house tortilleria, Mexican sweets section, panaderia, carniceria, ceviche section by the pound, fresh juice/agua fresca stand and paletas (juice pops) section, etc. Basically a paradise of Mexican food.

Chicharonnes con carne are pure bliss if they have them. They leave about an inch thick bit of pork belly on it. Deep fried magic.

We have a La Superior near us that does that, but Vallerta is better.

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

For fish tacos I still like Mitch's Seafood best.

    And Kiko's seafood food truck.

Back in the 70s-80s it was El Taco Loco outa Lamont. They had trucks all over Bako with everything from from cabeza to asada. Then Dave's Tacos truck took over, a truck about half way to Taft...$.75 per taco and if I remember correctly 6 of em filled a plate.
