    Atomic Powder Ride Construction

I've got a pair of powder rides in my garage that I'm thinking about making into swallowtail's.
Is there anything in the construction of these that makes this a bad idea?

Why not? I've got too many skis and these seemed like a candidate to mess around with.

i would not recommend it, the foam core in atomics (and salomons) tends to "burn" with epoxy touching it. you could cut it fine, but sealing it etc would be hard, unless you bend a bunch of metal and JB weld it to the topsheet and base only. which will ski like shit, and will STILL be hard to seal the core behind the patch.

plus, if you want to ruin a set of perfectly good skis, i'll send you $ to ship them to me.

That's why I didn't just start cutting, changing them would be interesting - ruining, not so much.

Actually have two pairs of these, the used pair of 180's and a brand new pair of 190's that I grabbed from a second hand place for $150. Figured I'd keep the 190's and screw around with the short ones if it would've worked out.

FYI: all a swallowtail does is make the tail less stiff.

and don;t try de-cambering them, or they'll fall apart

That's what I was going for , at 180 they're reasonably short anyway and with the 105 waist, my thought was that the swallow might make them into an interesting tree ski.

At 180 isnt it already a tree ski?

if interesting is your only criteria perhaps you should make them swallow-tips

But then I'd never know which way to put them on the roof rack.

someone correct if im wrong here, having never skied a swallow-tail
but wouldnt the tail cutouts moreso lock the ski into a turn and make it harder to disengage from a turn and butter them?

Thats pretty much how i ski through the tress, so it sounds like it would make a pretty crappy tree ski.

I've already shoveled and wheel-barrowed 5 tonnes of gravel this summer.
How's your timeline? I'm in GP this weekend and moving stuff to Rossland the next.

Sell me the 180s for $150 and wipe your hands of this...these aren't the droids you're looking for.

Send me a PM if you're interested in making a deal.

I say go for it......even with screwed up tails, they should last as long as the sidewalls on those things.

I actually love skiing those.....but they are the least durable ski I have had the pleasure of destroying.

No wheel barrowing , use the skid steer to move gravel 1/2 yard at a time . Digging is working out pretty well , can get down 5 feet with the hoe on the skid steer the next foot isn't too bad as is gravel with very few large rocks. 99% would be pit run <3".

Not going up next weekend but weekend after. after that any weekend if any body wants to. want to get all the piers in this fall.

Big news no more sleeping in back of truck. Now have trailer , 24', on site.
