FS: Seattle Are Mags Thule Evolution 1600 Roof Box

Selling my 2 Y.O. Thule Evolution 1600 Roof Box. The box is in pretty good condition; some scratches on top (low parking garages at the airport), but otherwise it is in great shape. I have all the original tie-downs and keys.

I am asking $250, but I am accepting offers (Mags only). If interested PM me. This is a local sale only... you want it come get it.

Nice boxes -- I own a couple of the 1200's.

And he's got a Mt. Baker sticker on there, so.

    Hmmmm....

If Shin doesn't get it...I will

These'll fit 189cm skis, right? Think they'd fit up to 195?

I dont know Jumper. I have a heck of a time getting my Outlaws in it. They "list" at 188cm, but are actually 193cm when you measure... it is a bear getting them in there.

The 1600 is the "short and stubby" version of the 1800. It fits better on most wagons, though. My 1200's are just a narrow version of the 1800, and you could get 200+cm skis in them.

Yeah, part of the agreement Mrs. Fubar and I have is selling this box first. The 1800 is the one I have my eye on.

Hey BB, you may not remember this, but I got that Baker sticker the day my boy and I drove up to Baker two winters ago. We all had beers afterwards (not including foob jr)... good times. I think you were still engaged back then????

Hmmm....yeah it's a little short for my lovin', I think.

    sorry dogg.

I gots my eyes on a wider and smooth-textured box. My Cascade is a bit narrow, makes me use the other side of the car, and lets air underneath the stickers so they get ripped off. Annoying.

Wider? I think there's only one box that's wider, and it's that behemoth 2200 or whatever that takes up the entire roof of your car. The 1600 isn't a narrow box, by any means.

Smooth-textured? The finish is as smooth as you'll find. While Yakima tends to have textured crap everywhere, the Thule is perfectly smooth.

But if you don't want to buy the box, then don't, instead of making up silly excuses.

I was referring to my current box, BB. I have the narrow Cascade, and it's got that textured crap just like Yakimas.

I've been thinking about upgrading boxes, at least going wider (but not much shorter, my current will hold my 204 morrisons no prob...not that I ski them ever...but you know). There are two wider versions of the Cascade, one shorter and one longer, and now they're smooth-textured just like the Evolution. REI had a sale on them earlier in the year, and I hesitated on pulling the trigger for too long.

It's just hard to spend ANOTHER 400 bucks on a box, when the one I have works fine, shedding stickers is kind of a silly excuse. Yeah I can craigslist the one I got now, but...yeah.

Do the new Cascades open on both sides? Other than that they're black (not silver), have a little different mounting hardware (not as smooth as the Evo)...I can't see too many other differences.

I know nothing about the new Yakima stuff. I was so disappointed with my trusty old RocketBox that I decided I'd rock Thule stuff for awhile (plus I get it on form), and it's been far surperior. The plastic is better, the mounting system is better, and the locking system is better, IMO.

If you still want to cart around that random long pair of skisi, either keep your narrow box and buy a 4-ski pacman clamp, or buy fubar's wider box and buy a 4-ski pacman clamp. You can still get longer skis in the 1600 if you put them in at an angle.
