My best friend and I made the hearty little 16km jaunt into and back from Rainbow Lake which sits high above the village across the valley from Whistler and Blackcomb. The lake is amazing and provides Whistler with a lot of its drinking water, therefore no swimming or fishing permitted. The hike is supposed to take 6 hrs round trip, but we took about 4hrs hiking. The best part is when you break out of the forest and hike on a bunch of walkways taking you through some high sub-alpine fields with pretty wildflowers and great views of the surrounding mountains. We didn't take the time to hike the extra 1.5kms to Hanging Lake, but I hope to do that sometime soon. I highly recommend this hike! Next up, Wedge Mountain and the Chief.
