TR w/pics: Hike to Rainbow Lake, Whistler

My best friend and I made the hearty little 16km jaunt into and back from Rainbow Lake which sits high above the village across the valley from Whistler and Blackcomb. The lake is amazing and provides Whistler with a lot of its drinking water, therefore no swimming or fishing permitted. The hike is supposed to take 6 hrs round trip, but we took about 4hrs hiking. The best part is when you break out of the forest and hike on a bunch of walkways taking you through some high sub-alpine fields with pretty wildflowers and great views of the surrounding mountains. We didn't take the time to hike the extra 1.5kms to Hanging Lake, but I hope to do that sometime soon. I highly recommend this hike! Next up, Wedge Mountain and the Chief.

    Nice little waterfall:

Some of the peaks on the way up:

    The aforementioned walkways:

Nice view of Blackcomb and Wedge:

Another waterfall right near Rainbow Lake:

    The lake:

A view looking toward the end of the lake:

The girls, taken by my magical self timer on my camera:

Green Lake and Blackcomb on the way down:

Wedge (far right) and Currie and stuff:

All photos taken on my Canon EOS Rebel XT with the crappy kit lens.
    Believe.

Looks like a fun hike. Always good to see snow on a hike, especially in early September.

I like the 'girls' shot :

And to the mountain geek- I was too lazy to edit after I took another look and realized how wrong I was with the mountain names. Keep geeking it up, champ.
