    Classic Phishing.

Take a closer look at the original email. I bet when you hover over the login link you'll actually see "http://tilisnrtiorportmairtmapeprt.has.it/" in the status bar.

First clue is the generic greeting, I'll let the following link take it from there. You can use Javascript to alter the URL in the address bar btw...

Just don't use any of the links in the email - log in straight to paypal. If there's anything pertinent, it'll no doubt bitch at you. Have a check whether the link is actually to paypal.com (if it's an HTML email, it's easily masked).

Real emails from ebay, paypal, etc. usually tell you to navigate to their site to log in... if an email asks you to log in from a link, it's probably phishing.

Never follow a link on such an e-mail, they will look identical to the real site. This is phishing. The delete button is your friend.

I got a Bank of America phish a few months back, and being the good citizen I am, tried to tell them about it - nigh on impossible, and never recieved any reply of acknowledgment or thanks. That sort of pissed me off.

I've been getting the same sort of thing regularly. I just forward them to the Paypal fraud department. Forward it to spoof@paypal.com they'll send you an email to confirm if it is a fake.

I know a chick who got her bank account plundered for more than $60K clicking onto one of those.
She got out of it, but it was close.

Below is the one I got today, they use gradually more urgent language as time goes on.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PayPal is constantly working to ensure security by regularly screening the accounts in our system. We recently reviewed your account, and we need more information to help us provide you with secure service. Until we can collect this information, your access to sensitive account features will be limited or terminated. We would like to restore your access as soon as possible, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why is my account access limited?

Your account access has been limited for the following reason(s):

September 02, 2006: We have reason to believe that your account was accessed by a third party. Because protecting the security of your account is our primary concern, we have limited access to sensitive PayPal account features. We understand that this may be an inconvenience but please understand that this temporary limitation is for your protection.

(Your case ID for this reason is PP-121-601-924.)

I know how you feel. It is quite mazing the amount of scams going on and nobody seems to give a damn.

My wife just got scammed out of 200$ from a UK website.

I tried reporting someone for identity theft once, when I called up the SS agency they told me that unless it was my # they did'nt even care. Amazing.

Anyone else getting a crapload of these emails from the UK? Its the new Nigerian email scam.
