Is it ok to save jpg images to a regular cd (650mb) or should one use a dvd?

You should use DLT tape backup.
If you're talking backups and archives, you won't get many images on a CD. I use an external hard drive for archiving. So cheap these days.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.
I'm just talking about after getting so many on the computer burning them on a disc for safekeeping and starting over again. I was wondering if the quality is compromised by using cd vs dvd discs.
It is not. Medium longevity differences may apply, but file integrity is the same. It's digital data, dude!Originally Posted by Mott the Hoople
I don't know how long DVD's last, but I've lost data on CD's before... just due to them degrading over time. So, becareful of that if you will store them on CD and not on a hard drive for a long period of time.

Don't buy cheap media - media makes a difference. Stick with name brands on either format and you will be fine.
