If I'm coming, I won't be skiing... So I'll just hike and shoot pics with my new dSLR... And drink, a lot .

Also, I'll be lugging a huuge teepee style tent with me (provided I can find a center-pole from the woods, nearby), and it should have quite a bit of space.

Getting to Oslo Fri night, flying back Tuesday morning, renting a car, so hope to get three full days' skiing.

Driving from Gaerdamoen to Folven (nearest camping to Stryn summerski) is about 4 hours, or mebbe a bit more or less...

Folven Camping has some huts/cabins and also ample room to set-up tents... Also this is the place where the party will be (and they have a nice bar... Powder Cafe), as well as the possible transport to the summerski resorts.

Even closer to the summerski is Hotel Videseter, they also a nice restaurant... No idea on the pricing though...

Then further away from Stryn summerski, there is atleast 3 or 4 other camping grounds (with huts/cabins) before the town of Stryn.

If peeps want to hook up, they should start PM me their cell# and I'll collect them and make a nice list of 'em to share (either via PM, or I'll put them up somewhere protected).

The route doesn't start before June 1st, so it's too late for the Stryn opening weekend, but Londoners should take note of the new London-Ålesund connection which is being opened by SAS (flights every monday and friday after June 1st, IIRC).

Ålesund is quite a bit closer to Stryn than Gardermoen (like a 2 hour drive), not to mention the even better touring possibilities between Ålesund and Stryn, i.e. Sunnmørsalpene.

Western parts of Norway are being hit by cold fronts from NW now, this should provide even more snow to the already good coverage at altitude. Hopefully it will stay a while, even if temperatures should rise to levels higher than normal (like it has been throughout the winter).

As posted, Teletori and Scottyrottan are sure to be there... I'm still in the limbo, but pretty certain to make my appearance (taking pics & drinkin'... The knee is not going to take skiing). I also beleive Tri-U has booked his flights, so he should be there as well.

OK. pulled the trigger... Will arrive on the evening of 23rd and bail out on the 27th.

As stated earlier, won't be skiing (fuggin' ACL+meniscus) but will most likely hike with snowshoes and shoot pics plus drink beer and act as the usual Scandihooligan I am.

Mrs.jk and me will be there from May 25th until 3rd of June. We will ski the resort and party at Folven on the first weekend, then move camp up the valley and possibly focus on touring for a few days before the Freeline Jam comp.

Well Irbis and I are still in, coming with a third chap and his son.

I've done my absolute best to bring with me two beauties from work. They bailed when they realised they'd have to drive 400 miles each way for three days.

Oh, and here's the weather forecast that is actually near the resort (top of Nuken ~1800m)... Looks like some soft snow is to be had...

No need to hate me... I can't ski... But you should hate my cousin and a bunch of the Norwedgian Maggots (Scottyrottan & Teletori and their pals) as they will be skiing.

OK... The Mini was sort of an success...

A great deal of snow was available higher up and a few maggots made it there (plus some tele-wankers from TTips)...

The biggest grief was actually the snow... It had snowed so much that the actual resort couldn't open (avalance prone road), so hiking and touring was the name of the game.

The weather was quite shifty, going from a full blown blizzard to baking in the sun with just boxers on...

All in all, the party @ Folven/PowderCafe was amazing, and the amount of really expensive beer consumed at said party (from Thu to Sun) is staggering.

I was there opening weekend, believe I left monday 28th or 29th(not sure of the date). Had my bit of fun, but the only thing that pissed me off a bit was the road never opening(at least not for the public). Some driving had to be done, Saturday towards Geiranger, at Djupvasshytta, for a little hiking and a kicker session, and Sunday just past the two first tunnels out of Strynefjellet, for the greatest fun I've had since the end of april, also a kicker session.

Great fun, food and drinks all around.
Anyone planning to go the weekend after this?
Edit: I'll be there from sat. 16th of JUne till at least sunday 24th. Then maybe moving on to folgefonna.

Anyway, some inside knowledge...

I know where the key to the Stryn Summerski road is, and we did use it to drive to the resort on Thu... Alas they wouldn't let us use the lift and it was in the clouds, so no hiking... Got even yelled at from the Mesta-Snowblower guy... Good thing he doesn't speak much english and even the the norwegians acted like foreigners..

BTW. the official reason for not opening the road was too much fresh snow and really high avy-danger above it (if you've been there, you'd know). I'm pretty sure it was the right call...

Anyways, mebbe we'll see ya next year (of during Easter in Lyngen/Tamok/Rikdgränsen/Narvik).
