The segment in the beginning of the movie, after the shot of 50+ wellow snowmobiles, a slower mothion seg comes on to one of the best songs I have ever heard, Track 6 off the Hello Starling album by Josh Ritter. (thanks Xover, got CD from Woodsy and buring it now! )

The movie is so different, the art, ........ hell, it is really a great film, like fine wine.


Edit: Ice has the right idea for sure. If I go watch this again today (watched it last night AGAIN), my wife will most likely kill me. 2 days of Sinners and Josh Ritter, grovin out.

Yeah, amazing song, I'm planning on buying Golden Age of Radio and Hello Starling later today. My second favorite song in the film is "Lay Me Down" by The Frames, it just seems so perfectly matched to the style of shooting and the segment. The whole thing is a work of art. Here's to hoping that Bill turns out something else like it sometime in the future, only this time it needs to be about 3 times as long.

Glad you're enjoying it. Bill told me to send it to someone who'd really appreciate the film. Guess I made a good choice.

The stickers were plenty. Just think positive thoughts for me making it to the Summits this year. The Mini starts during finals week (didn't realize that until a couple weeks ago), so that might end up being a tough one to swing.

glade, you're frequent homage to Bill's work is super cool and well written. I completely agree, the film captures exactly the soul we've all been missing in the 80's 90's movies, though there's shreds of it in Gaffney's "Walls...", i think. just not as quietly beeyootiful. which is a shame, b/c i would bet my skis Scott's got the footage for immersion 2, it's just that it's too expensive to develop it into another film. He's super creative and so much more keyed into the soul of the sport, the passion behind it. I wonder if he's seen Sinners, actually? hmm.. . .

and i'll echo what many have already said in varying forms. "Sinners" is addictive and in a subtle way. i was bummed when i found it to be shorter than most ski film, but the more I watched it, the more I loved it. and i already knew the first time it was brilliant. but it's peace and beauty grow into you, throughout you. and it feeds the same passion i feel when watching more superficial, (but nearly as equally important), ski movies. I can't tell you how many times i popped Sinners into the DVD player at 1am last year, and grinned ear to ear, watching every detail of his editing, lighting, how he chooses to use the music, all to make that time on the screen transcendent for us.

It's not "XXXtreme!!!" b/c it doesn't need to be. I really need my ski porn, but the distinction is I couldn't live/ski as fulfilled as i do if I'd never had the chance to see Bill's work.

Good chance you'll be waiting for a lonnnnnnng time. Bill is my nextdoor neighbour and as far as he's concerned, he is done with that part of his filming career and has moved onto other arena's. I've questioned him often about it and while he'll never say never, he says it's highly unlikely.

I ordered 'Sinners' the second I saw the trailer, back when it was called 'Snow Falling on Sinners.' (Well, okay, I told my dad about it and he ordered it... it's great having a dad who is as addicted as I am to this stuff )
I LOVE this movie. It's kind of cool that there won't be another one, because anything else would probably be a dissapointment. How do you top Sinners?

BTW, just finished watching Immersion. I like that flick just as much as Sinners, but for different reasons.

I was checking out my new high definition channels tonight and Warren Miller's "Vertical Reality" was on. In VR there is a segment where they show Bill as a WM cameraman and give him a little bit of a feature. In addition to showing him as a cameraman, they show him bungey jumping in NZ I think.

Yeah, Bill spent something like 16 or 20 years shooting with WM Films. I swear that I can pick the segments he shot out of most Warren Miller films just because of the shooting style. Either way, the man does magic with a video camera. It would be interesting to see him and Gaffney team up for an independent project, kinda like a synthesis of tru Gaffney works (Walls, Immersion) and Sinners. I bet it would be amazing. It'll never happen, but I can dream, right?
