It was a great rally.
Best sign: The Rapture is Not an Exit Strategy
Best Speaker: Rocky [we can handle the truth. TELL US THE TRUTH]
Even saw some SOC folks![]()

Johnny's only sin was dispair
You can thank SOC for all the Wasatch Front wilderness designation. And your ability to ski tour there without chairlifts, snowmobiles, helicopters, hotels, and all the other crap that would be there if SOC didn't fight for it.Originally Posted by Johnny Deep

My favorite signs were:
"No wonder it hurts, there's an elephant screwing us!" (with a drawing of the Republican elephant)
and
"We the Sheeple"
There were quite a few crude signs as well.
Also funny was the large paper mache heads of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Condi. You'll see them on the news I bet.
My 3 year old son Preston had his, "Bush is not my friend" sign, and I had a sign with, "Bush...the real terrorist" on one side and "Ban Bush"(ran out of time in making our signs) on the other side.
I'd say there were close to 2000 people in attendance. The PA system was lacking in the volume department. I liked Rocky's list of "No More's". It brought home the ineptitude and criminal behavior of Bushy and his cronies.
I hadn't seen that one yet!Originally Posted by Johnny Deep

Religion's Evolutionary Origins

By host Tom Ashbrook:
The urge is so strong, most people don't fight it. In the presence of religion and religious icons -- churches, temples, altars, scripture, holy relics from the Ganges riverbank to Rome -- most people become reverent. Not Daniel Dennett.
Denett is a philosopher on a mission. His mission is to break religion itself open to scientific inquiry, to "break the spell," in his words, of faith.
Dennet's conclusion is that religion is not miraculous or supernatural, but a product of nature itself -- of Darwinian evolution, like the finch's beak or the opposable thumb. If that sounds like sacrilege, maybe it is.
Hear about the evolutionary theory of religion.

The author, Denett wrote a book titled "Breaking the Spell of Religion". It sounds facinating and I'm going to have to read this!
Screw the net, Surf the backcountry!
Haven't read that one yet, but I've read several of his other works.
Dennet writes and thinks extremely well and clearly.
"Darwin's Dangerous Idea" is an excellent book - an accessible explanation of evolutionary theory and why it matters.
