"No more God is on our side religious nonsense"

Brave words for a politician from Utah, and that sentence likely brought the biggest applause of Mayor Rocky Anderson's speech. This was from the anti George rally in SLC which looked like it had quite a large turnout.

Hopefully the tide is turning here in Utah and the left will continue to be more outspoken and involved. I hope Rocky has a bright and long-lived career in UT politics, we could use more like him (even if he doesn't want Ogdenites to come south ).

I'll see if I can find and post a transcript of speech.

I attended the rally and was pleasantly surprised by the turnout. Saw lots of republicans vs bush and consitution party vs bush signs along with a strong veteran contingent (young and old). I think the tide is turning.

    Dear God,
Where were all these people 6-7 years ago when we needed them?
Does Bush & all his corporate cronies own you too?

As far as moderate conservatives go, Bush jumped the Shark about a yr ago, right after Katrina.

Rep. Harris: Church-state separation 'a lie'

    POSTED: 5:37 p.m. EDT, August 28, 2006

MIAMI, Florida (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris told a religious journal that separation of church and state is "a lie" and God and the nation's founding fathers did not intend the country be "a nation of secular laws."

The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate also said that if Christians are not elected, politicians will "legislate sin," including abortion and gay marriage.

Separation of church and state is "a lie we have been told," Harris said in the interview, published Thursday, saying separating religion and politics is "wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers."

    Electing non-Christians a 'legislative sin'

"If you're not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin," Harris said.

    ***
Harris, 49, faced widespread criticism for her role overseeing the 2000 presidential recount as Florida's secretary of state.

Great interview of Rocky Anderson yesterday on NPR by Robin Young. Take a listen. The epilogue is fabulous.

    linky to piece

I went to the rock to hide my face,
but the rock cried out no hiding place,
theres no hiding place down here,
no hiding place in the mountains,
no hiding place in the waters.

Even in Utah, GWB has cannot hide his face. I sincerily hope that moderate Republicans come to their senses and cast their votes for more moderate members of the GOP.

Drove by while this was going on. "Large turnout" is not at all how I'd describe it. Police seemed to outnumber the protesters. I'm glad all 200 people (out of how many in the city?) showed up, but I wouldn't hold your breath for a paradigm shift in the way this state is run. Sorry to rain on the feel-good parade.

How could anyone in their right mind possibly think God is responsible for helping them....get elected....make a touch down....etc. when innocent children are being molested, abused and abandoned?

    Seriously - that's my measure.

Pretty sure God was not on my side during a hangover I had a few days ago.

"My name is Fred and I'm just a man,
    same as you are."

    "You're not a man.
    You're a bishop, for God's sake!"

    "There is no God!"

Where's that quote from, hmm, hmmm.

If the guy can play hockey, he can certainly help out with a touchdown or two. Seriously.

    No: baseball.

As seen written on a wall:

    "Jesus is the Answer"

    below that...

    "What was the question?"

    below that, finally...

"Who was Felipe and Matty Alou's brother?"

Another one I saw spraypainted on the side of a building:

    "Jesus Lives!"

    below that...

"So does that mean there's no more Easters?"

I think liberals, like polygamists, are afraid to "out" themselves here.
You look like I need a drink.
