I've got two that I don't use (we are all electric now). I'll check what brand and you can have one for shipping + six pack if you want. I'll be home at lunch time to check...

Dunno anything about specific brands, but if you can, get one that is electric vs. battery powered. They tend to be much more accurate.

Rootskier - What type of heat? I.E. baseboard, furnace, boiler, etc...... I am contemplating solar + electric boiler backup. Fuck the gas companies!!!

thanks for the kind offer. i'm not averse to paying for a new one. in fact, i'm leaning toward an electric model (vs battery)...probably for the same reasons you switched.

we have propane heat / vermont stove that we use throughout the winter + supplement with baseboard heating.

the main bedroom is up a flight of stairs. i'm thinking of putting one detector there. wondering if i need a 2nd detector for the main level (kitchen/living room/2nd bedroom).

    thanks!

OK, whatever. One is like 3 years old and one is like 2. They are plug in models with numeric display and battery backup.

As far as the question about my house - it's sucky electric baseboard. I will be installing a woodstove shortly. We are planning major addition/overhaul in a year or so, I am completely torn about how to heat it. It will probably be gas hot water baseboard (we live in town and have natural gas to the property) and wood. But it will be super insulated...so I am thinking wood will do the majority of the heating.

hey, rootskier...is your offer still available? i'd really love to take you up on it & compensate you for the trouble.

i misunderstood your post above (i thought you were saying you had battery-operated detectors and had now switched to electric detectors....not that you were saying you switched to electric heat). my mistake!

    what model do you have?

let me know what i can do for you.

I'd take the other one for the same deal if you still want to get rid of it. We're all-electric here but I run the woodstove a fair amount in the winter.

Oh and if you're considering a woodstove, Jotul are the best imo.
