    Arrow crazy lightning tonight!

Crazy lightning storm tonight! I was just about to go to sleep then i saw lightning flashes about ever 30 seconds or less! I've been meaning to shoot some lightning photos but hadn't gotten around to it till now....just got back in. Wish I could have gotten some better ones but I was scrambling to get my shit together and take a few shots before the rain came pouring in....

I also like the first one. Well done. That was a fleeting opportunity.

    Sweet shots, dude!

Too bad you didn't have something to cover the lens and body while the rain came in ... sometimes with rainfall and lightning you get some REALLY funky and cool effects from light being refracted through the raindrops.

Nice shots midget. Lightning is a bitch of a subject. There's a ton of luck involved even if you have the technical parts dialed in.

I like all three photos. Don't listen to powstash, his office chair is tilted off-center.

It's actually not that bad - Expose for the scene and then use this: http://www.lightningtrigger.com/

Nice thing about lighning is it's relatively slow. It may seem like a flash but it's much longer than a strobe, so you can even get good shots on full "Auto." Set up a tripod, mout the trigger (there are others too - this is just the first I found on google) and crack a beer.

what are the techincal considerations for taking lightening shots with a digital camera?

    how long exposure?
plus or minus anything on the exposure?
    tripod - of course

    anything else?

Long exposure, set it around f5.6-f11, and wait to get lucky!
Most were done (since I didn't have time to find my cable release) with a 30 sec exposure (max my camera lets me do), and at f16 on my first one (although i was a bit off, and was a little dark), but i was up on a bit of a hill and the lightning was pretty close (so everything was a bit brighter than the last 2....those were further away)...

    Oh, and tripod for sure.
