Chile? Argentina? Last week in Sept

Grad Schools sucking my life away. I need some snow. I've finally got the airline miles for a trip to south america So I"m going to go.
However, I have no clue where. Looks like It will be the last week in Sept. I can fly in to Buenos Aires or Santiago.
Anyone have any advice on where to ski that late? Back country is prefered. I denfinately am taking my skins.
    thanks

Check the weather before you commit. One week of high temps and sunshine... it's melting, spring has come very early this year.
I'm just a simple girl trying to make my way in the universe...
I come up hard, baby but now I'm cool I didn't make it, sugar playin' by the rules
If you know your history, then you would know where you coming from, then you wouldn't have to ask me, who the heck do I think I am.

Unless they get another 1-2m of snow it is doubtful that any of the resorts will be open the last week of September. If you've never been to SA and you've got no BC partners, then the high alpine is kind of sketchy too. Best bet might be to check out the volcanos in southern Chile and Argentina for easy access and touring (low avy danger) or maybe kick around near the resorts that are more easily accessed (VN, Portillo, Chillan) and hope to run into some other crazy gringos...

Will portillo still have snow last week in Sept? Are there good backcountry runs in Portillo? Or is Las Lenas they destination even if I'm more interested in turns than discotech.

    thanks
