I took a job in downtown Denver. He might have a job in Boulder. I am tired of commuting and want a half hour or less commute. Rent wise Boulder is just to high for him. I want to be able to party in Boulder and rather than downtown. This probably rules out Golden???

We both have cars...are there alot of DUI check points between Broomfield and Boulder? I will be driving to work not riding public trans due to the nature of my job.

    Thanks
First, your roommate is unrealistic, and doesn't realize the additional money spent on gas to live in a place that sucks. $325 a month is fucking ridiculous, tell him to wake up.

Second, yeah, sure, go party and drive all you want, no DUI checkpoints anywhere. I can't even believe you had the gall to ask that.

Third, do you need to drive to places at work? Because the public is really reliable and runs frequently, and runs until midnight. If you don't work 3rd shift, the only reason to drive from Boulder to downtown Denver is if you frequently have to travel to other places.

Ah man, you guys are dicks. I live on the Westminster/Broomfield border, I got the best of both worlds. Then again I am over 30 married with a kid and 2 dogs. If I was looking to party this aint it. BUT it is the middle point between boulder and denver. I am not going to try and defend it, but I like it cause its safe for my family and have a yard, but it is whiter than whitebread. If being close to the mtns is important don't rule out Golden

yeah on the dui front here's another hint:

CO has NO TAXIS, generally little public transit (except as mentioned) and lots of bars, therefore we have a LOT of DUI stops. If you DD here likely you will get popped...eventually.

That's a significant difference. The burbs are fine when you settle down with the missus and kids; the increased space, larger house, etc, are worth it. But for 2 young single guys moving to the area? Come on, Broomfield would be a living hell.

Just move to Denver and make your roomate pay to commute since he "might" have a job in Boulder. Rent in Denver is cheaper, the drive to the mountains is faster, and the partying is just as good. The only thing you'll miss is the close proximity to trails in Boulder, but it sounds like your roomate can't really afford to live there anyways.

I was not meaning to imply alot of Drunk driving, but with the laws the way they are you can't have 2 beers and be under the legal limit...it is like .008 or something redunculous like that. And yes I do have to drive places for work. And no I am not a pizza delivery man.

I am looking around on craigslist and there seems to be a couple places there, and when I say my roomate is poor I meant that he needs to have money for rent at a place in the mountains and will only be making 50K a year

$50k a year is more than enough to pay $400 in rent and then some more for the mountain condo. I think you need to re-establish your "poor" judgement!

DRINKING + DRIVING + BOULDER = REALLY BAD IDEA

Not like it's a great idea anywhere, but in boulder it's downright scary. I can't even count the number of friends/aquaintances w/ DUIs on 2 hands.

I work late once a week (drive/bike home at 2:30am) and usually see between 3-5 cops on the way.

Don't really have any suggestions for your living situation besides picking either Denver or Boulder. The commute really isn't that bad and you will be happier that you aren't in whiteminister.
    Drive slow, homie.

I am not sure what the big deal is with a community of all white people. I would like to think that I get along with white people pretty well. I mean I have nothing against them.

"Only" be making 50k? What the fuck is your problem? ANd why is your roommate being a cheapass little bitch? You guys can afford WAY WAY WAY more than you say you can if he's the poor one.

I was paying $400/mo rent on $25k a year, and still living a decent life. Tell your roommate to sack up and open the pursestrings.

I did not mean it the way it sounds, but you figure 350 for rent, 350 for car payment, 100 for insurance, food, utilities, gas for the car, ski passes, drinking tabs, new skis, cell phone, internet, cable, it all adds up REALLY fast. Before you know it you don't have any money to put into your 401(k).

If you want to party in Denver, live in Denver, if you want to party in Boulder, live in Boulder. The two towns might as well be 100 miles apart, couldn't be more different. The only reason to leave Boulder to party in Denver is a sporting event/concert/cheesy monosyllabic-named dance club. The only reason to leave Denver to party in Boulder is a hippy or hip hop show at the Fox.

Your roommate sounds like a complete douche. Make him sign up so we can tear him a new one in person.

cabs are a joke in either place, don't ever count on 'em.

If your car payment = your rent, maybe you should trade in the BMW or Audi and get a sensible vehicle.

I think he is afraid that he won't find a job right away. He has some leads in Boulder and his uncle and cousins live in boulder, and I personally like Boulder more than downtown, it is just the nature of my job requires me to work in a large city.

That really sucks that you can't grab a taxi to Broomfield. Can you get a ticket for riding your bike while intoxicated? Maybe I could ride back and forth...lol

As far as the Beamer and Audi are concerned...the payment on those vehicles are like 550 a month. I have a jeep and he has a used Envoy and both our payments are between 350 and 360.

I personally don't care if I have a great apartment. I would rather have the extra money to play with, but I think you are all right. Boulder would be a much better place to live.
