    KOLO New linkhttp://www.kolotv.com/news

Hey when this thread came out yesterday, I sent an E-Mail to the News Director for KOLO, its on thier website now, I am sorry I was asleep for the late news last night. It looks like they copied it verbatum from the www.squaw.com website. Of course I got the info from Mr. Twnsends post in this tread. I also notified Channel4 KRVN but I have not seen anything from them yet.

EDIT looks like they went to other sources for the info, its diffent than what is posted on the Squaw Valley website

RIP Alex - you created a product that has given me more pleasure than you will ever know. Countless days of my life have been filled with bliss, all thanks to you. Your legacy will live on as Squaw has put and will continue to put endless smiles on the faces of countless people.

Clearly you must own real-estate in the valley . The next few years will defiantly be interesting. Who knows what's next for Squaw. Not too many ski conglomerates are in acquisition mode right now - ASC is broke, Intrawest just got acquired, VRMC (please no) - possibly, BoothCreek (please no) - do they have the $$? or a group of independent investors?

RIP Alex. Thanks for your amazing vision in bringing to life the best place I've ever ski'd.
And may God help us all now that Nancy's in charge.

IIRC, he was Harvard Law, not HBS.

But the (rhetorical) question is valid either way.

RIP AC - good work while here on this planet.

Now, to the future: would be soo sweet if Alpine and Squaw found a way to link up their mountains: simply via a connecting lift (like Alta/Bird) or through acquisiton of one of the other, etc....

Very long nice tribute to Mr. Cushing tonight, props to the news channel that recognized the man for who he was.

I worked for him and Nancy during the 1995-96 ski season and it was a pleasure to know him. He scared me a little at first. I didn't know that he had suffered a stroke years earlier. I think what blew me away about him was his passion for the mountain and the sport at his age and physical condition. The man loved his mountain and if anyone had something bad to say about that, well, screw 'em! Squaw Valley was Alex Cushing's mountain and he'd do whatever he damn well pleased with it. I always liked that about him.

ok, i agree that a merger might not be the best, however, an agreement like Alta and the Bird have where you could access both mountains via a connecting lift and an all access pass would be $$....the gapers would still not bother to hike to the goods @ Alpine, but we could hit the goods @ Squaw....think about it....lining up @ KT on a pow day, a few runs there, then working your way back to Alpine, and ending the day with some hikes out towards Twin Peaks...that would be a good day...

    via the '82 slide path....

The problem is that to make it work, you'd really want to have a direct lift-to-lift connection. The run down White Wolf is unlikely ever to be made "safe" enough for insurance. So that means people would need to be able to ride down from the top of KT to the Alpine base, or somewhere nearby.

The guy who owns White Wolf has been upfront about his hope that the lift could be used to connect the two. But realistically, it would need to be a high-speed quad or sixpack, and even so, it would increase lines on KT.

Much as I'd love to see the two connected, there are a lot of reasons it wouldn't make sense. Alta/Bird shows that the price delta alone isn't terminal, but that doesn't make it make sense.

(sorry for any incoherence or ill-considered opinions -- drank at dinner)

As one of Alex's biggest critics and shit disturbers over the year's, I wish you a fond farewell and good luck in your next life.

And after 2 seasons in Las Leñas, he looks like a god as far as ski management skills go.
