Any one lived and worked at the Rustler Lodge at Alta?

[I've done a search on this, I've found some good info, but I need a little more.]

I just got a job offer there and I was currious what others' experiences where like?

Is the managment good? What condition are the dorm rooms in?

They offered me a position at the front desk or waiting tables; I'm not sure which one I am going to take. Obviously I want the one with the most ski time...

In respect to the experience I would have working at the Rustler, how does the this lodge compare to the other lodges, like the Peruvian and Alta Lodge? more fun? less fun? (I have a job offer at the Alta Lodge too)

Finally, those who worked there, did you have any oppourtunities to take time off to ski at other resorts outside or Utah, like jackson, any of the colorado resorts, tahoe???

Thanks in advance for answering jong-ass questions.

Well, I stayed there for free a few times. Let me tell you, that was the shit. Hor'Dourves and blended drinks on the house at 4pm. Daquaries in the heated outdoor pool. Eucalyptus steam room. Plush robes. Plush douvets. Omlets made to order for breakfast. Four course dinner. Mornings when the canyon is closed.

Seriously, Tom Pollard that runs that place (he did anyway) is a really good dude. I'd work for him.

    rus is super chill

    Hey.

The Rus is pretty chill if you play it cool. Work hard and try not act like a total rookie- (how old are you? They kinda harsh on the 18-19 yr olds, espically if you ask for it) The mgnt knows the game up there and they have no prob axing you if you start partying too hard, not skiing and/or acting like a jerk off in general. On the other hand, it you keep it chill you'll find it a great place to work. The older staff there ski ski ski and are super cool. I worked there for a year and had a blast every time I went to work ( for real) I'd work in the Dining room-- a little high paced, but if you have waited tables anywhere else it should be a breeze. You wont make much coin woking in Alta, but that is not what you're there for anyways.

pm me if u got anymore Q's

I am starting to plan for a season in Utah as well, I am driving out in the beginning of October if you want a lift from a fellow Marylander.

Also am I missing out by not getting a resort job or living at the of a ski resort?

My thoughts were if I lived in Sandy/Cottonwood heights, I could:
A:Find a nice restaurant to wait tables at
B:Would be easier to get time off for trips to JH/CO/Tahoe (pretty important to me)
c:There is no way my car is getting up the canyon, but it will do fine around SLC
D:I figured there might be a nightlife in SLC... but it is SLC so I dont know

I guess this is kind of a highjack, sorry.

There's ups and downs to living on the resort, not having much time of is one of the downs - I think - but getting to other ski areas in the country is important to me too. I'll pm you in a little bit; I'm definitely not sure what my plans are going to be as far as working.

the guest that stay at the rustler, think that they are the best on the mountain. all the fag bags and pocket rockets are the people from the hustler. there are a lot of assholes that stay there, my opinion they should stay at the cliff or PC.

I think that living in Sandy/ Cottonwood has one primary advantage...money. If you have experience you could get a job at La Caile, Tuscany, Cafe Trio and pull down enough in tips to get a pass, pay rent, and still have money to hit Jackson, Snowbasin, etc. You would be able to get in a lot of skiing as you would mostly work nights (although you could get stuck with double shifts occasionally). 4X4 restrictions on the canyon? Take the bus. Theres a lot more options in the valley for food, bars, movies, other sports, women, etc.

    Just my $.02

Sandy ^= SLC. Theres even less to do around Sandy then there is downtown (which has a few fun places to hang out and booze at). If easy access to bars and such (and a much bigger number of restaurants you could potentially wait tables at) is important, you should consider somewhere closer to downtown -Sugarhouse, 9&9, something like that. But, I heard the 'House "ain't so sweet". So, take it with a grain of salt.

And I don't know shit about Rustler lodge because I'm not a true loc - I only ski when its good, not 5-7 days a week. Also, I don't pour my blood and sweat out in the town of Alta. Also, I am someone's fat girlfriend. Anyways, good luck to both of you.

So are you insinuating that you may be my fat girlfriend? I'm shocked. And what happened to that thread? I was just getting worked up enough to actually post in it. Hope that guy shows up at opening like promised, I'm looking forward to meeting "him".

Worked at the Rustler for 2 years 87-89, was the shit! Tom Pollard was the man to work for. Still hold him in the highest esteem although its been 7 years since I've last seen him. All the folks at the Rustler, can only speak to old school, and Alta period are the best. Everyone takes care of their own. The front desk was always a good gig, night auditor or bartender the best. The dining room took care of their own and the "waitrons" always had cash and ski time. Any true ski bum must do time in Alta. Previous comments apply, don't act like a punk or you will be shunned.
