AVI to DVD converter help needed

I am looking to convert some vids that I have as AVI and xvid avi's to dvd format. As in watch it on my DVD player. I have done some research and there are a lot of options out there.

I am looking for the easiest, simplest method of conversion. I know there is also an issue for "authoring" a dvd? Looking for freeware if possible.

    any help greatly appreciated.

I use Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Edition 6.0 and DVD Architect. Its a reasonably priced editing and DVD authoring software but has lots of powerful features. I find it handles sound envelopes particularly well, and it allows multiple video, sound and music tracks to be worked edited and lots of special affects.

Bottom line for you, it renders MPEG2 files (and other compression types), masters DVDs and the standard edition is only $89. http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/pro...ct.asp?pid=977

    Easiest, simplest is Avi2Dvd.

    Freeware, available here:

Also has a HOWTO guide available. I usually use QuEnc as the encoder (with one pass, extreme).....Not as configurable as some of the other more advanced converters, but you wanted simple

Thanks! I too have been looking for something that is both 'easy' and 'free' . Need to start putting some home movies on DVD. This will be super helpful.

I've been working on and off with this part of the day. I kept getting errors about no decompressor for four cc xvid. I just downloaded the XVID codec, very easy to find and now trying again. will know the results soon.

big thumbs up, finally got it to work the xvid codec was key. Might want to set this up to run at night, it took 3 hours or more for it to run, probably longer for bigger files. And my computer is pretty quick.
