    Magic Mtn, VT biking

I recieved this email last night after an inquiry to a post on TGR about a year+ ago. Interesting stuff. Magic would be a great mountain to ride. If they can't pull it together this fall it looks like it is a go for next year.

From Brian at EastShore Mtn Bike:
    Hey everyone,
I have just recently received all four federal, state, and local
    permits for constructing
Phase I of the proposed DH mountain bike park here at Magic Mountain.
    As well, the mountain
is now under new ownership. This week, the week of Aug. 13 – 20, I
    will be working to secure
contracts with the new owner of Magic Mountain. Although, late in the
    season, Magic Mountain
management wants to initiate the mtb program this year because of it’s
    marketing value. There
are still quite a few hurdles to jump through to accomplish this goal.
    I am contacting all of
you to see if you still have interests or the means to participate in
    constructing this year’s
startup park. If you do please e-mail me a list of any equipment you
    have and are willing to
volunteer, your phone numbers, and a list of days when you are
available from Aug. 21 to Sept. 30.
If for some reason over the next week Magic Mountain Ownership and I
deem the task of starting up
this season unachievable, I will begin scheduling for startup next
summer in 2007. Sorry for the
delay in my response, but the state and local governments here in VT
have kept me busy for the last
year and a half. Also, if you have questions and wish to contact me,
feel free to call me at
    540-421-2983. Thanks for you time.

    Brian

if this happens, please limit the skinnies and stunts, they do not add "soul" to the place, make nice, fast flowy, tech, natural trails that have the occaisonal drop/etc...and the occaisonal wooden feature is ok if its done right....

Ditto what magic needs is to work with the rock features and add flow. something ec spots have not embraced is flow. the only exception would be mt. creek. I'm not sure why but the image of ec dh is stuck in the straight down the fall line approach. Think whistler not whiteface.
    Harvest the ride.

Wow....my life sure has changed since I first posted this.

Anyway...yes, Mtn biking will be happening at Magic starting 7/1, weekends only. The trails and most of the operations are being handled by an "outside" organization (its complicated). The new website, www.empireofdirt.net, will be going live soon. In the meantime please feel free to email them at info@empireofdirt.net with any suggestions.

I am not a downhiller, but it seems like they are keeping "flow" near the top of the list and have looked at whislter extensively as a model for success. This summer they will only have completed phase 1 of a 13 phase act 250 permit. When completed we will have riding for all ability levels and all types of riding.
