    Beautiful Panoramic

    http://www.refugedesarenne.com/fichi...ultmovthd.html

It takes a minute or so to load, but it's well worth the wait. It's a panoramic shot from the website of the Refuge du Ciol de Sarenne, a high mountain hut on the pass above Alpe d'Huez. Scanning round lets you take in the lines off the back of the Grand Rousses massif. Further round to the right you'll spot the Mont Blanc massif on the horizon and further round still the distinctive teeth of the Aiguilles d'Arves.

There's also a spectacular angle I've never seen before of the Massif de la Meije, running down to La Grave as well as the high altitude ski fields of Les Deux Alpes (Glacier de la Girose/Glacier de Mont de Lans).

Just some snow and rocks to help you through summer really.

apparently a very good lunch stop. they told me i was a "sauvage" because I opted to try to get another run in rather than stopping for food

Do you know if you can stay a night there during winter?

I don't know - i reckon you could though. it has the look of a year-round place. You definitely can stay at that place further down the Sarenne gorge on the run out of the Sarenne piste, which I've always quite fancied but never gotten around to

Here's a shot of the Grand Rousses massif. The blob at the top is the top lift from Alpe d'Huez, the Pic Blanc tram. The black lines indicate a couple of routes on the Grand Sablat, a run that usually carries on down to a village called Clavans-le-Haut. I've indicated the traverse routes to the road to get you back into the Alpe d'Huez ski area. Arno knows all about skinning back up the road!

This shot has the Mont Blanc massif on the horizon at left. That should really be the Monte Bianco massif, because we're looking at the south facing Italian side here. The jagged peaks to the right are the Aiguilles d'Arves.

This shot shows the La Grave ski area on the Massif de la Meije on the left hand side and the Les Deux Alpes glaciers at the top right. In the foregroiund is the Plateau d'Emparis.

Wow. Great spot. I have never seen this ridge before as it points the 'wrong' way from the Grand Rousses (north) and I believe it's also hidden from the La Grave area. I guess you'd access it from Clavans with a light skin in. The Ridge at Bridger bowl has competition!

I think that couloir ridge is the backside of the ridge visible through the fence in this shot of Brownmonkey taken at the top of Pic Blanc.
