    Verdi Fire mini TR

I have been watching a nice brush fire burn in the area surronding Verdi all afternoon. Its a fast moving fire but looks to have covered about 5 square miles in the past 3 hours. I had to charge my camera to get any pictures.

The fire started about 600 yards from my Trailer but down wind. It appears to be a fast moving BAD fire.

So here is what I got a few min ago.

    Chopper

Random shots, cool part is seeing the smoke comming off the power poles after the fire has gone by.

The fire is now buring over the peaks app 6 miles for the source

Thats it for now, I think I will get some good shots of the fire when the sun goes down.

I was just about to put up a thread asking if you were OK out there. So the fire is moving away from you?

Yea I'm on the other side of the river. Its a fast moving grass fire, but it has been moving slowly up wind also. I think it got the new constuction in Sommerset, and its almost over the peak into Dog Valley. I think they stoped it just short of Mogul on the south side. This thing is gonna burn ALL NIGHT LONG.

Yea I am South and west of the fire now. The news just said that they were not evacuating
Sommerset but I was just up on rob drive and I know everyone is pouring out of there. And Road is closed. It sure is a pretty show from hwy 80.

I think I am gonna head up to Boomtown, drink beer and watch the fire.

Drove over 431 this afternoon, greeted with a view of the huge plume of smoke. Runnin' errands south of town was pretty smelly. Saw Alice Cooper at the Hilton, and after the show it was super stinky walking to the car. Then driving back up Rose the fireline looked very large and spread out, the orange flames glistening in the night. This thing looks far from contained.

No, used to live there (end of Severn - between Kings Row and Keystone), moved about 2 years ago down to the bottom of Mt Rose highway.

Last night was a night of sights: We saw

herd of bucks on my land
    the Leonid meteor shower
huge orange streaks of flame on the Verdi mts driving into Reno at 9:30pm

    I hope all are safe.

Perseid meteor shower. If it weren't so shitty and cloudy and rainy in Juneau, we might have been able to see it too, as it is finally getting dark 'round here again.

    Hope all's well in Verdi.
