analog will work great, but you have to put in the time to master it, for digital, the barryvox, tracker, and pieps dsp all kick ass. I have a dsp that i love, the mutiple victim function is amazing. It doesn't matter which beacon you have as long as you're competent in it's usage
Three fundamentals of every extreme skier, total disregard for personal saftey, amphetamines, and lots and lots of malt liquor......-jack handy
Dude, he doesn't care about your recommendations, unless you're part of the TGR staff or a member of the National Ski Patrol.
He needs to be stylin' what all the kewl kidz on Freerides wit' da mad b4ckc0untry st33z3 are wearing in liftlines next season.
He should get the one with the most flashing lights, those are the BOMB!Originally Posted by Tri-Ungulate

Most of the SAR people here use the BCA Tracker because BCA gives them a pro form.
Ski Patrol is a mix and match.

The Ski Patrol gets proform on Ortovox, though that can change from year to year. That's what was last years deal was. Though I'd guess that could change by resort based on what kind of deal the resort management could work out.Originally Posted by Summit

Yo, does your shiny new Tracker have an "Official Beacon of TGR and the NSP" printed on it? That would be way fukkin' rad. Maybe they'll let you go out of bounds at Snowbird if you flash that mad st33z3 at 'em, though I hear that a studfinder from Home Depot works as well. Good thing the Tracker is the closest thing to idiot-proof for newbies in the BC. Good luck, and I mean that sincerely.Originally Posted by brannen
As for your invite to your ass, hey, that's not my preference, but maybe you can find a more willing participant somewhere else who'd be more than happy to stick their new poker there.
NSP can proform Ortovox (or buy from the NSP store). Pro patrollers can also get ProForm from Pieps, Barryvox and BCAccess. Since there's a rather wide range of skills encompassed it don't mean jack shit.Originally Posted by mnflyfish

Is this a poor attempt to advertise/protest? I can't imagine you were that interested in what the TGR staff use?Originally Posted by brannen

Ortovox f1 and we practice continuously throughout the year with mock mass burials, deep, shallow, single/multiple burials, etc., etc.
Although they are issued, it is user-based. If one has their own digital, or what have you, that is the one they use since it is the one they use on a regular basis.
Analog or digital, shiny or dull, pimp design or not, it don't mean a thing if you don't know how to use it. Period. You shouldn't need to know what so-and-so uses cuz it's all about knowing how to use it, whatever brand it is.
As for analog vs digital, I have seen people use an analog beacon extract burials quicker than digital ones. It all boils down to PRACTICE, PRACTICE PRACTICE. Shovels, probes and beacons are body recovery tools. This is a tool (not to be mistaken by what lurks in your pants) and when you wear it to the backcountry, or even inbounds on a sick pow day with your buds/buddettes you are accepting a huge responsibility to your fellow bloke and you better damn well know how to use it. And use it well. End of story and I don't mean to kick a dead horse on this issue....
Sarge be using a Tracker and he's still the snow safety guy for TGR I think.
