    Question Burton Fish ?

Anyone know about the flex ratings on a 2 year old Fish?
Buddies looking at the one that's rated for lighter riders and he's a little over the recommended for it, but he can get it for about $200 less than last years model which only come in the one flex.
Purely a powder ride, will only be used for cat-ski trips and big dumps at Castle, so he's thinking that being 170#'s on a board rated to 150#'s might be okay.

I don't know. They are such freakin' noodles anyway. If its made for a lighter rider I'd think it would just fold in half. It may not be fair for me to judge though, since I haven't ridden one and probably never will. I'll stick to swallowtails on powder days. The only place I could imagine that board being good would be tight trees on a powder day. I don't know Castle, but if they don't have trees, I'd tell him to find a great split-tail.

Those things are fun as hell on snow days. I don't remember what year they made the bigger ones but the first year's model was pretty short. It floats well for it's length because of the shape but the next year they made the 160 something was much better. I'm 165lbs for what it's worth.

Yeah, my buddy rides a few days every year in Tahoe and said he'd never even consider it for the snow he's gotten there. Thought it might pretty sweet for the light, dry snow we tend to get though. Plus, he's got a couple of other stiffer boards and just wants the Fish for pure blower days.
I partnered with a guy riding a Fish last year for a couple of cat days and he said it was the best board he'd ever been on for tight, steep trees in light snow.
Just can't seem to find much info on how much different the MD is vs the HD. He is used to reasonably stiff boards, so....

    Why not?

The heavier stuff we get is perfect for the really rearward stance. You don't need to lean back. Tahoe's the only place I've ridden them and I thought they were great. 3 foot days are less work than a traditional shape fo sure.

I've got an old 180 super model that I used on big days and honestly, the fish boards I've ridden worked just as well and were WAY shorter so yeah they are little toss around toys in tight trees. Jumping off stuff is a little wierd though. That tail wants to go digging if you're not hauling.

I suck on any snowboard, so I can't really answer that. He just said he greatly prefers his stiffer boards when he's there.
Thanks for the replies, I know this is pretty vague.

Actually I could see where that would make sense considering some of the wet storms we get. Once things get tracked on wet snow, riding through the chop is a lot more abusive. Riding a noodle makes every umph that much more. My land cruiser length helps in that respect I guess. It's noodle too though.
