    going to Indo...

I just got my tix, landing in Denpasar on the 16th of October and staying the limit of the visa, 30 days! So stoked!

Anyone have any beta for Indo. I'm not getting barrels yet, and reef breaks freak me a bit, but hope to get over that. Prolly will spend some time in Kuta to start. I know, lame and crowded, but it's off season so it should be mellower. Any recommendations for a place to stay at Kuta Beach?? I hear the east side of the island is decent in November? How rainy is the wet season?

What about Lombok, Dreamland,Java,Sumatra, etc. I think after a couple weeks in Bali, we'll be ready for another venue.

I'm just looking forward to doing some travelling and surfing, then coming back just as the new ski season is starting.

    Thanks for any advice...

Oct is borderline change of seasons so you can luck out and still score the classic Bali spots- Ulus, Padang, Kuta reef, Medowi, etc.

Nov/Dec the monsoons start to blow from the SW, rendering the entire Western side of Bali (+ any W facing spots) an onshore mess of slop. There will still be something rideable on the main Kuta Beachbreak if you're not too picky. (The same can be said about any of Kuta's nightclubs at 2am)

If there's swell as there usually is all year round, then hit up the Eastern spots, where it will be offshore and it will be mainly rights. Nusa Dua is the fucking shit.

As for the other islands you mentioned, make sure that it's not West-facing (if the monsoons are up in Nov), and you sould be cool.

Be aware of the reef, which has a penchant for extracting the token pound of flesh for all those barrels you'll get.

    - I might see you in the airport as you are leaving
    - the Wave-Finder guidebook looks/I've heard is the best indo surfspot guide. It's <$10 @ amazon.

Buy a 1mm wetsuit/rash guard with a draw-string. This will give you protection from the reef and sun (must have a draw-string !).

Don't take Larium Malaria pills, these things will fuck you up !

Have fun and don't cut-off any locals or ever get in a fight with one (they all will gang your ass ).

Reef booties a must. Buy them very tight fitting.

    One bottle of Betadine.

Flight leaves tonight, should be hitting the beach tomorrow afternoon, fucking stoked!

Weather looks good, swells are producing, and it's just starting to rain here at home after a killer fall climbing season. Great timing.

Anyone else in Indo. Plan to hit Kuta, Semynak, Medewi, Dreamland, Nusa Lebongan, Ganug Agung, Kuta Lombok, maybe the Gilis?? Any other suggestions??

    Peace.
